I luuuuurve my guinea pig.
Guinea pigs are sweet and adorable. They're clean, and will try not to go in your lap. My pig is so smart, if she has to go potty, she squeaks and runs up to my shoulder. Then I take her to her cage and she goes. I never even trained her to do this!
You feed them pellets once or twice a day, leaving the bowl out, and they should always have timothy hay available. They also need lots of fresh veggies each day. Guinea pigs are similar to us in the way that they don't make their own vitamin C. You have to make sure that the food you buy is GUINEA PIG food, not rabbit food. Rabbits make their own Vitamin C, so there's none added in their food.
Guinea pigs are very social, and do best with a friend. Trust me, though, two pigs are better than one! It will keep them busy and it's adorable, but two isn't much harder to take care of than one. A guinea pig should have about two hours of play time if you can manage it, but that might be a rough. Remember, they need floor time as well as lap time!
With good care a guinea pig can live 4-8 years, which is pretty decent for a rodent. They also weigh 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds, so to me, that's the perfect size. Not so little that they can only sit in your hand, not so large that they need so much extra care.

well depends on the matence you want. hamster require exercise 15 min in a ball 3 times a day. rats not to much up keep. they do there own thing. now lizards, they are totally easy and turtles. they are such easy to manage pets.
hamsters require a lot of attention. or they will be mean. my daughters have 2 of them. they were all about the hamsters for about 3 months and now almost a yr later they are bored with them. lol. i would go to a pet store and see what you fall in love with.

I've owned an albino rat, gerbils, and hamsters.
I would say siberian dwarf hamsters...they are SO cute, and have little personalities of their own. They don't mind being held, or cats staring at them all day through the cage.
I wouldn't suggest a gerbil, although they are cute and spunky, they are REALLY annoying at night, and they don't smell pleasant.
Rats are OK if you don't have other animals, so you can take them out all the time and let them roam and snuggle. They are more like a small cat.

I'm very fond of rodents. But the best for me is Guinea Pigs.
They are very tame. They never bit me (except for some nibble they do on my skin which I almost don't feel). They are very social creatures and like interacting with humans too.
Low on maintenance. And I especially like they're bigger size compared to hamsters. Peruvian Cavies need more attention due to their long hair, but its all worth it. They also have longer life expectancy.

I like mice. They are cuter than rats but have more personality than hamsters.
I used to have mice and taught them tricks.
The one bad thing about mice is that they poop and pee everywhere.

a guinea pig. they make little noise, theyre adorable and you hardly have to do much. rats' & mice tails are disgusting. hamsters are noisy at night and they die faster than guinea pigs. chinchillas need a specail "bathhouse" and the droppings of ferrets are much nastier. rabbit droppings are the worst. you can smell them a mile away.
so go with a guinea pig

I prefer rats... they're "tolerant" & smart.
Hamsters can be tempermental & bite from time to time. Mice are just a bit on the fragile side.
