This whole rubbish about atheism being a religion or somehow in league with Satanism is ridiculous. Atheism is a lack of belief in any Gods. Look at the root of the word "theism", which is a belief in gods. Put that "a-" in front of it and you've jsut negated the meaning of the word.

Atheism isn't a lack of RELIGION. Some still follow religions, just not ones where people worship gods. Some forms of Buddhism could be considered "atheist" because they don't worship anybody.

Stop listening to O'Reilly, Hannity, and Ann Coulter spewing their misinformed opinions about the world.

Atheism is a "belief" in no God. It is not a religion because it has no traditional practices or some sort of holy book. In other words, atheists do whatever they want.

On another note, it's hard for me to comprehend why there are people that actually believe that this life is it and only it. Are they really content with the idea that upon death they are non-existent forever? Pretty silly if you ask me.

Interesting question and I mean no disrespect here, but at this point for some I feel it's like a religion. SOME attack Christians and defend their position that there is no God with what can only be called a religious zeal.

MW lists one definition of religion as: 4 : a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith

Lack of belief, and definitely NOT a religion. Though Atheism just says not a belief in a deity, they CAN believe in other things, contrary to what some theists believe....

Your errors lays in which you attempt to define atheism the comparable way you attempt to define faith. in case your definition of religion is a set of values and ideology that a guy or woman makes use of to furnish meaning to his or her life, then atheism is maximum surely no longer a faith. Atheism isn't something extra suitable than the acknowledgment of one's loss of concept in any style of god or deity. that is it. era. There are are not any assigned values, ideals, concepts or dogma to this acknowledgment. that is not something extra suitable than a fact suitable to a guy or woman's perceptions. it may seem to you that atheism is a faith by utilising the movements of a few atheists, yet that would not make you only right. by utilising that is totally definition, a faith could have some set of center values, ideals and prescribed ethical code. Atheism has none of those. you're able to be an atheist and doubtless no longer care if different each and every person is religious. you're able to be an atheist and have confidence that faith is inherently risky to society. you're able to be an atheist and be a liberal...or a conservative. you're able to be an atheist and be very almost something, have confidence in only the different concept, value or ethical you % to. in short...No, atheism isn't a faith.

The very definition of atheism is the lack of belief in a deity. That's what atheism means! To say that atheism is a religion is to say that a fish is a cow.

Atheism is the rejection of the idea of God or religious dogmas. It is not a religion itself but simply an unneeded label. We don't make names for people who don't believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny.
