My co-worker next to me chews with his mouth open. I politely asked him to chew with his mouth closed twice to no avail. I then decided to slash his tires a few days later.

Yep, you went too far.

You took it in a different direction, thats for sure. Duct Taping his mouth-shut would have been too far in the right direction but how does slashing his tires tell him not to chew with his mouth closed?

Why didnt you just get up and relocate your body to an area where you did not have to witness your co-worker chewing with his mouth open??

You probably cost your coworker's children a few nice meals they could have been treated to, a trip to the local amusement park and presents for Christmas.

Who do you think you are??

Due to the lack of association between loud chewing and tires, I have to say "you went to far". I think you would have gotten your point across better by putting his lunch in a blender (no chewing required).

What do you think?. I think you should give him some time to adjust. Maybe he needs more time to remember to chew quietly. I know that there are things abut others that irritates us but you cant just take things into your own hands like that. But really.. is that all there is about him that bugged you, or is there something else ?

You are wrong to do this, he obviously doesn't know, or you would be paying for his tires. If it bugs you so much the way he chews ten you should find another job

Yes you did take it too far. Shame on you. His tires and personal possesions have absolutely nothing to do with his eating habits what so ever. I think you need a vacation to regroup your ways of thinking and upon return ask to be moved at your work so that you don't have to be around this person. Shame on you.

Tires are not the way to go. Next time duct tape his mouth shut. Problem solved.

Yeah, that's too far. And if he doesn't have the self-consciousness to keep his mouth closed, he'll probably never get the connection to the tires.

yeah WAY to far and with no results. Slashing his tires will not make him chew quieter - it just makes you a criminal.

Frankly I do not believe you actually did this... and if you did, you are so totally wrong.

Have a polite day!
