#4 The only way to break the myths is to educate.

This is why I care about what others think about my beliefs, and those of other people who practice religions that aren't mainstream. I care because and uneducated public is not somethign this country or world should be proud of. Not one bit.

Some great answers! I love the open minds!

I practice New Orleans Voodoo - which is a form of Voodoo comingled with Catholicism - it evolved during slavery times in New Orleans and the surrounding area. I do not kill anything for my rituals. I use oils, incense, and various plants and stones in my practice. I don't "curse" anyone, and you can't turn anyone into a zombie. That is all myth perpetuated by the unenlightened public and the media. As I said in another question, a good place to start exploring is wwww.voodoospiritualtemple.org. Priestess Miriam is outstanding.

I totally agree with all you #'s...lol.
I have studied religions for many years, vodoo included, don't let what others think affect you.
Take comfort in knowing that you are on an enlightened path and although it is sad to watch and hear ignorance around you, it can only make YOU stronger.
These people who mock you or insult you are only on a lower path than you and much more bumpy and full of obsticles.
Educate, yes! and never stop learning. It is those that refuse to learn that seem to walk on a life treadmill, ever repeating thier same mistakes and misfortunes.

I have mentioned my interest in Celtic history and mythology and the ways of the Celts. I have spent time comparing a lot of these ancient beliefs with other ancient cultures and I find so many similarities that I truly believe it to be no co incidence. Many of the creation `myths` for example are so similar world wide, as are the stories surrounding the origin of `man` (human beings). The interaction between humans and `otherworldly beings` is also very similar. Knowledge and understanding of nature to is another common theme within ancient cultures that I think has been lost in the evolution of our modern world. Indeed so much has been left behind by so many ( not everyone of course). Many make reference that the Celts could`t write for example and use this to say ` How far we have come since then`. In fact they did indeed write and used a script called Ogham ( Celtic tree alphabet). They believed this would stop others from stealing secret knowledge. They aslo decapitated their enimies, the belief that the head contained all origin of power (even opther wordly power) and this would stop the return (in this world at least) of their foes. Refering to another of your questions ( if I may) they too believed in spirits of everything, stones trees and the like. They aslo, despite reports marking them to be barbarians from the north (written in the main by the marrauding Romans) had a very complex social and political systems that was inclusive no matter gender ( Queen Maeve being revered in Celtic history). I agree that there is need for education and understanding, only this will lead to those of the `world` making their own mind up.

Well, I personally don't believe in voodooism, but I respect the fact that you practice it, and I have done research on it before. It's actually very interesting. I always like to keep an open mind with everything because I think it's wrong to be ignorant.

If people took the time... education to anything is helpful. But you can understand it and not agree with it. If it conflicts with your own beliefs your not going to agree with it. But I think what is more important is to stop slinging the hatred over it. Just because we don't agree with someones beliefs doesn't mean we have to belittle them or act out hatred on them for it. Leave them alone to what they do. Live your life for your beliefs not anyone elses.
I think some people believe that they've got to get people to convert to what their faith is, or to understand logic and that there is no spiritual world. Or they feel judged for what they believe in. So they act out. Never be closed to educating people about what you believe in if they have questions. But leave them alone if they don't ask. There is no reason to push something you believe on anyone. If anything it only closes more doors then it opens.

Voodoo is fascinating, whether one believes in it or not. "Brush ya shouldas off" Not everyone is going to agree with what you believe, and others will STRONGLY disagree. Thats the world we live in.

Voodoo and witched and wiccans and all that crap is ridiculous- just a bunch of people wishing that dragons and wizards are real. Basically, it's people who refuse to grow up- guess they're too busy playing harry potter!
