Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 3%.
Let's compare them

PS3 has 8 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 50 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual DVD (9.5 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of doom" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4 and other great exclusives.

PS3 online world will be free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.

In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.

Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years.

I would choose the PS3 because

A) Free online, which is also improving quite a bit

B) Is somewhat cheaper than the Xbox 360

PS3: -----------Xbox 360:

60gb PS3-$500 -----------Xbox 360 Elite (120gb)- $450
HDMI slot-Free---------HDMI slot- Only with Elite
Wifi-Free ----------Wifi- $99
Rechargeable Controllers-Free --------Recharge Kit- $20
Online-Free -----------Online- $50 a year
Blu-Ray Player-Free---------------HDDV... Player- $179

Total: $500 ----------------Total: $798

You might not use these accessories, so that’s why I say the PS3 is “somewhat cheaper”
Also why I said you have to get an Elite to compare it to the PS3 is because the elite is the only 360 console that has HDMI, which basically means it’s the only package that can get you true High-Def.

C) Has great exclusives coming out and all of these are different variety:
Heavenly Sword, Lair, Eight Days, Warhawk, Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Online, Killzone 2, Grand Turismo 5, Little Big Planet, Getaway 3, Driver 5, God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Jax and Daxter: Lost Frontier, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Resistance: Fall of Man, SOCOM: Confrontation, Tekken 6, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and White Knight Story. That’s all the games I can think of over 5 minutes.

Ok, now onto the boring stuff…

D) The PS3 is superior due to cell technology. This allows the PS3 to produce complex graphics far superior to any other console. The PS3 has a little over 2tfps and the Xbox 360 has 1. This basically means how well the system can do generating backgrounds like rain, clouds, etc. It also has to do with the amount of realism in graphical explosions and destruction scenes. The down side is however that it will be a while until game producers can max its potential because the cell processor is somewhat new in technology. That’s why games on the Xbox 360 look somewhat better right now. However, in about a year or two the PS3 will have better graphics. This is somewhat good too because then Sony wont have to make another console as soon because the PS3 has room to grow with technology, but then again nobody knows what technology can do in 5 years.

E) PS3 will probably be the better quality as in life span. Many Xbox 360s are already having hardware problems (25%-33% Xbox 360 have 3 red rings of death) when there has only been a reported 1% failure chance with the PS3. PS3 also has an emergency shut down feature, so if you PS3 overheats it will automatically shutdown until it is out of a dangerous temperature.

F) The PS3 has Blu-Ray. Blu-ray is a new type of video disc that allows movies and games to be more Hi-Def. The Blu-ray disc can hold up to 50gb allowing game developers to develop a longer game, better graphics, etc. The Xbox 360 only uses its game on classic DVD discs, which can only hold around 8 or 10gb depending on what type of DVD. Basically this means Xbox 360 games will have to be put on 2 discs in the future (for really big games)

Xbox 360 is not a bad system and has great games, but the extra 100 bucks are worth buying the PS3.

Is the second guy serious? HD-DVD is a failure. The only reason it's even still around is that Toshiba got so desperate that it's willing to pay movie studios huge amount of money to make movies for it, but the catch is that it's only for 18 months. What happens after that 18 months? Those movie studios are going back to making movies for Blu-ray. Anyone see the flaw in Toshiba pay movie studios huge amounts of money? There's this thing called profit that each company must make in order to stay in business. What happens if nobody buys any movies for HD-DVD? Toshiba is up the creek without a paddle. It's screwed.

He's also so, so misinformed about the 360. He doesn't even have a 360 because you can't watch HD-DVD movies on the 360 unless you buy the HD-DVD add-on. And ALL, not just some, I repeat ALL 360 games will not be made on HD-DVD disks. They will be made on DVD-9.

The 360 may be good for now, but it's already starting to show its age. 360 games are short because of the DVD-9. Look at Gears of War. It's a great 1/2 half. It's not even an entire game. We have to wait until next year to finish the other half. Is this the way it's going to be for 360 games? That's 120 bucks for one complete game. That sucks.

The 360 doesn't have any motion sensing controllers, which simplifies many of the controls. The PS3 and Wii have one type or another.

The PS3 is the future. It has Blu-ray, which is winning the current next-gen format war. Blu-ray movies are outselling HD-DVD movies by a 3:1 ratio. Target and Blockbuster have already committed to selling and renting Blu-ray movies in their stores.

Games in Blu-ray means that developers can put as much as they want on the disk without having to worry about running out of storage space. Lair and Heavenly Sword is taking full advantage of the Blu-ray, and it shows. Heavenly Sword is one pretty looking game.

Well the answer to this question lies within 4yr or so period a system is released. The early yrs of each system starts to say which is better. This lies in all categories of gaming such as grapichs, performance, gameplay, reliability, selection, etc.
This is the system you choose because in 2009 in the middle of console releases you want the best. You don't want to be looking at a machine that will never surprise you again. Every gamer wants to be like "wow" for the money they spend. You want the best experience the machine is capable of. Look at the PS2. Look how far it came since release. How far will that PS3 go ? By it's power, very far in time. Games will be there. XBOX has the games now. However it has been out a year longer. People also look at what they get for their money. Than last but not least is everyone's personal pride of their choice of machine. All of this goes away probably in about a year when both consoles are pushed to the max. They have already said that XBOX has reached it highest performance w/ Halo3. It goes back to the who like "The Lincoln VS The Cadillac". Here is a video of the superior machine to have for the next few yrs. You decide. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1YjSw_enUo

PS3 is a miles extra useful gadget, plus in-built HD DVD etc. Xbox 360 - has a hell of extremely some 'could have' video games as against a handful on the PS3. for this reason i might decide for Xbox 360 in case you're extra approximately organic gaming. Plus the two the console and video games are extra value-effective (2nd hand you may %. up pastime for some tenner) so xbox has have been given to be the winner all around.

I would get the ps3. If you just MUST have the xbox 360 because of halo 3, wait untill they fix the system up seriously. ps3 is the better SYSTEM because it has blu-ray, won't break, and the disks have over 6 times the memory of a dvd disk (what xbox 360 uses). so if you buy a game in the future for the xbox 360, it will come with about 3-4 disks to play one game, but on the ps3 it will only be 1 disk and it will be in HD. plus, ps3 has free wifi. xbox 360 is better for GAMEPLAY. well, most people prefer the xbox 360 because it has better games, but ps3 just came out on christmas, and we have to wait about another year to judge that. o ya, the xbox 360 has bad hardware that breaks too easily, but it's still a great gaming console.

I like both systems, but I pick ps3 over xbox 360 in the long run.

i would get the ps3 for MANY MANY reasons
i'll list some of the reasons

- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player

- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(HD DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 25gb)

- online is free for ps3 not like 360

- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring

- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it

- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have

- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p

- built in Wi-Fi

- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: 3% hardware failure

those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this

Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $599
60gb: $499
xbox 360- $399 (if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars)

Prices for the holidays(rumors)
ps3- 80gb: $499
40gb: $399
didnt hear anything about 360 but it probably will stay at $399

PS3 is $499 and the Xbox 360 Elite is $479. $20 dollar difference...

PS3 games produced are on Hd 50gig blueray (more space for better graphics without sacrificing game levels and game size..) GTA4 developers even stated that the game will have better graphics and gaming on the ps3 version and are having issues with the 360 version because of 8gig dvd game format... They may have to make the 360 version on multiple disc so if you like getting out of your chair alot while playing, .....

360-elite games produced on dual layered 8gig dvds
game developers are finding the 360 format to limiting and finding that they have to sacrifice game graphics or gaming levels and challenges...

Ps3 for the extra $20 you get a full HD entertainment system that also surfs the internet. You can goto any website and watch or download videos like YouTube...You can access your email and print it etcc...

Ps3 Blueray hd movie player that also upscales regular dvds movies to HD...It also upscales ps2 games to hd..

Ps3 comes with rechargeable controllers...

Ps3 comes with free online play and Wifi

All of the above the 360-elite can't do.
360 and elite -For hd movies you have to buy the hddvd player for $200. For

360 elite for quick charge kit you have to buy it for $20.

360 elite no interent browser

Ps3 hdmi 1.3 (supports deep color)
360-elite- 1.2 doesn't support deepcolor 1.3

Ps3 Nvidia RSX GPU Graphics at least two years ahead of it's time. And programmers aren't even close to using it's full potential yet.
360-elite is hardware locked into outdated DX9 graphics-Game programmers are developoing for DX10 (full 4d and 3d motion realism)

THe ps3 8cell broadband processors. CPU-Designed specifically for highspeed calculations (Games Capable of more AI charactors )

Xbox 360 -Elite-- The New 65NM CHip....Isn't any different then what they used in the 360 core except it cost less to produce....

Ps3 you can buy any external usb harddrive and hook it up loaded with music videos , etc...You can buy any brand 2.5 ata harddrive and upgrade the harddrive size for ps3...

THe elite and 360 requires Microsoft harddrives only- for a 20gig it's $100, for the 120 it's $189

360 -elite for wifi you have to pay an additional $100 and online gaming is $50 a year...And for that $50 a year to play online you also get stuck with third party in menu advertising...

To use 60% of what the 360 and elite can do you have to buy the addons and you'll spend over $750 before you even insert a game.

THe elite and new 360s hdmi, 65nm, red ring of death--Microsoft has no Idea what the cause is, You can't fix what you can't find. So yes they are all vulnerable.

Get the ps3 you can use it for so much more. We own all three. THe wii, elite and ps3,

I would go with 360 for the following reasons.
1.Cheaper,ps3 too expensive for what it is
2.More games available,ps3 has alot less games avaiable because its a new machine.
3.Online service is better than ps3
4.option of external hd-dvd drive on 360,ps3 has blu-ray unless you have the hd-dvd's it unneccasary but you still pay for it.

Neither. The PS3 is an overhyped pile of crap with no good exclusive games and a poor DVD format. The Xbox is the winner by default. I don't like it much more, but at least it has HD-DVD and a few games worth playing. IMO, the Wii is where it's at right now (unless you already have one!)
