I want to lose about 20 pounds, and I joined the gym, but only manage to get there about once a week. I go after work because I would have to get up way too early to drive there and back in order to beat rush hour traffic. But when I get off work all I really want to do is make dinner for me and my boyfriend, and relax on the couch watching tv. It is such a chore to make myself go work out. Is there something I am missing that could give me motivation?

If you want it badly enough, you'll do it. I don't allow myself to go home. I go straight to the gym after work. I go 3 weeknights and Saturday mornings and get almost 2 hours in each time. It's important, too, that you like what you're doing.

You havent gotten to the end of your rope. Dont let the doctors push you there in the next couple of years. The best time to work out is in the morning. You will have ton of excuses of why not to work out after 6pm. Why dont you shower and get dressed at the gym? If they dont have showers you need to join a gym that does. Your motivation will only come from within. The best thing to do is work out with others who will hold you accountable for not showing up. I play basketball two times a week at 6 30 in the morning. when I dont show up they talk junk about me and I have to buy breakfast.

Try on wedding dresses (okay, maybe not...but I did that Sunday...and if I intend to stay in the one I bought, I had better keep up with the gym).

What time do you have to be to work in the morning? Couldn't you go to the gym and then straight to work from the gym?

You want the truth. When I see people with great bodies and large muscles, that right there motivates me to workout. Seeing there body and the results I can get if I go to the gym and work out, motivates me. Try putting some pictures around the house of people with your ideal looking body, and see if that helps you out.

Get a girlfriend to work out with you. Its always much more fun to have someone go with you, so it doesnt seem to be so boring! Plus, you can get to know someone better while you are working out with them. Or even your boyfriend could go with you sometime when you are both at home, maybe on a Saturday or something.

Stand naked in front of a full length mirror. You will go running out the door to the gym.
