I've been working since I was 13yrs old. I worked 3 jobs in high school to support my family. I went to college for free but decided to drop out after my first year to pursue my 2nd dream-being salon owner/product line/etc. In 2004 I lost all three jobs, so I decided to go to school. Since then I've got my licenses to work in a salon. I am wanting to go back to school to take some classes for what I want to do. But I need a job first ($$$)...I've had the worst time with work! Employers that don't pay me, etc. Its 2007 and I'm 23 and still have no job (its been a year!) I've always been independent and its killing me! I've applied everywhere! That's all I do M-F. I sometimes get to speak with the hiring manager and I never say anything negative about past employers. I would love to get into a salon-but applied everywhere. I believe a school I transfered from is bad mouthing me. At this point I don't care where I work-I've applied at gas stations, fast food, part time, full time! HELP ME

Pengy-thanks for you advice...as far as I dress usually black dress pants with a short sleeve white blouse, red kitten heels, minimal jelewry, natural makeup-hair usually up and curled. i used to public speaking so its nothing (i still get nervous, who doesn't) ppl usually comment on my country accent-i've never lived in the country and my parents don't have it i got it from my greatgrandparents-haha! i am partially deaf in both ears but read lips well.

If you're professional and any good at sales, go work for an insurance company. (you'll have to get a license, but the returns will be worth it.) Try UIG. They're really friendly and low pressure.
Alternatively, if you'd rather not be commissioned, if there's a Bank of America in your state, apply online as a teller. You get tons of opportunity to move up with the company, plus they'll pay for most schools' tuition.

The question seems to be how do you present yourself? Are you dressed well, do you speak well? Do you make a good first impression? No a school is not contacted nor making bas references to you, it would not be good for their reputation and PR. First place I would look at is how I look, and then my attitude in responding to questions.
