The Bible, at Ephesians chapter 6, identifies the existence of “wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places,” Satan the Devil and his demons. God’s Word urges us to resist these “world rulers of this darkness.” “Oppose the Devil, and he will flee from you,” counsels James 4:7 by filling our minds with the protective truths in God’s Word, not by ‘wiping the mind clear’ and immersing ourselves in procedures that invite demonic forces to control our minds
Luke 11:24-26 When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through parched places in search of a resting-place, and, after finding none, it says, ‘I will return to my house out of which I moved.’ 25 And on arriving it finds it swept clean and adorned. 26 Then it goes its way and takes along seven different spirits more wicked than itself, and, after getting inside, they dwell there; and the final circumstances of that man become worse than the first.
A mind that is "swept clean and unadorned", is much like one in the midst of transcendental meditation. It is a mind that is clear of any thoughts at all. In this state one is vulnerable to demonic forces entering the mind.

My first answer to this question was quite glib and insensitive, and for that I apologize. I fail sometimes to see and connect to the understandings of others, simply lost in my own world with my own experiences driving me.
I do not believe that meditation will lead to demonic possession. I believe that what we call demons are simply areas of the mind that are in need of healing.
I wish you the best, and hope that you will search further concerning meditation.

Well first what are you meditating on. If it is the bible the word of God then no. Besides sin is what opens the door for demons to enter. If you are having ungodly thoughts eventually you will desire to do whatever it is you are thinking of and evil desires produce sin. Which is how demons can enter. The bible says to think on things above and the let the mind that was in Christ Jesus be in you. If you are doing your best to think like Christ and rebuking anything that is not like him then there is no room for demons.

When John of the Cross was asked a similar question, he noted that "the devil" needs something to work with, and when you are in contemplative prayer -- letting go of thoughts and coming to rest in an intimate silence -- the devil "can't find you."
It was his understanding that you need to be thinking for a devil to affect you -- a thought can be nudged into an erroneous or unwholesome direction.
I know from my own experience as a long-time meditator and a psychotherapist that, just like therapy, when you spend intimate, respectful time in meditation listening to your heart and mind, your heart will do some healing, which can include difficult experiential states. But meditative mindfulness is a profoundly healthy practice.
EDIT: There are many types of meditation techniques, but the most fundamental is coming into a naked, non-judgmental awareness of being. To speak of such a practice, like the responder below does, as "'wiping the mind clear’ and immersing ourselves in procedures that invite demonic forces to control our minds" would be like saying "honesty immerses you in deception." It would be like saying "paying attention makes you lose control of your mind." It does not work that way.
And to say "Christians are not to meditate" is just wrong. From the Psalmist's call to "Be still and know I am God," to the Orthodox practitioners of the Jesus Prayer, to Catholics like John of the Cross, and Protestants like the Quakers, meditation and contemplative prayer have long had a deeply respected place in Christianity.
In the end, the better you know yourself -- the more intimately present and aware you are with the workings of your heart and mind -- the less susceptible you are to any unwanted psycho-emotional or unhealthy "demonic" influence.

Maybe you have multiple personality disorder. Maybe you have Alien Hand Syndrome. Maybe you are just another christian wacko. Whatever you may be, the only demons are in your subconscious. You know those voices that tell you to do things. You should try listening to voices once in a while, they might make more sense than all this dribble about demons.

Nope! The only way a persona can be possessed is to express permission for the demon to enter. Even in altered states of consciousness our free-will reigns supreme. Otherwise we would all run the risk of possession during sleep.

Yes it can. One of my sons was into a game called mind craft. He saidthat he would meditate and put himself into a trance to play out battles in his head. I read some things that he had written and it was completely and utterly evil. I tried to get him in church, and he didn't want anything to do with it. He is spending the remainder of his life in prison because he took the innocent life of a friend. He strangled her until there wasn't any breath left. He doesn't see the connection, but he also didn't realize what he was dealing with. When meditating without the word ogf God, you are inviting the demons in to your life. They are illegal tresspassers and will grab any opportunity to possess anyone!

Uhhh...
Maybe you're doing it wrong. Meditation should slow your mind and give you feelings of peace and serentity. You should feel connected to the world and in complete control of yourself.
