My English teacher actually came up with this question.
It sounds silly, but it's logical.
Back when time began, how did people figure out how babies are made? And even if they figured out sex, how did they realize it produced babies? I mean, it's a nine month interval; I never would have related the two.
Any speculations?

I get what your saying and it's not a stupid question at all. It's up there with Did man create God and things like that. I'm thinking everyone here that really answered has apiece of it. If man evolved as science says then it was probably just going along with animal instincts. I mean only humans and Dolphins have sex for fun so that might be a better question. When did sex become more then procreation? Or if you do the religious belief that man and woman were created by God then maybe God(dess) showed them the way? We can only speculate but it is a fun think to think about.

In the beginning, they observed the animals. Animals generally take a much shorter time than 9 months to produce young. Eventually, just like many other aspects of life, they figured out cause and effect.

they realized it produced babies when the woman went into screams and the bun popped out of the oven.
(for sex they were probably watching the animals and it looked like fun).
Don't feel bad, I didn't figure out the process until I was in my late 20's.

I'm not sure your English teacher is for real, but procreation is probably the most basic of human survival instincts, so I'm sure they just knew without questioning it.

Hmm, that's an interesting question.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it comes out the same hole that it went into?
