Jesus, the way, the truth, and the life. False teachings has
taken Jesus, God made flesh, and turned him into a man
who even married.

The true Jesus as told in Colossians 2:9, "For in him
dwelleth ALL the fulness of the Godhead bodily". He
is the temple/body of the fulness of God the Spirit, John
4:24.

I'm much more interested in the historical Jesus. I've already read the gospels, (and the rest of the Bible). The religious/traditional Jesus is a pretty simplified subject. Once you get past a few basic points, you pretty much know everything about him that traditionalists really think is important. All the rest seems to be minute variations on a theme and picayune questions of dogma.

The historical Jesus is largely a mystery. Any new, verifiable discovery of information about a historical Jesus would be extremely interesting. There are about a million details about him that people can only guess at, especially when it comes to his childhood.

Unfortunately, verifiable historical information from neutral secular sources is almost completely non-existent. Such a complete absence of information regarding a person that supposedly performed so many wonders and caused so much controversy is rather odd. I can't help but feel that it is a strong indicator that there was no historical Jesus. However, I would be extremely interested in looking at anything new that was discovered.

After being raised in a fundamental christian church (preacher's daughter, no less) I have found too much to doubt in any of the "traditions" of faith, whether it be Jesus, Noah, Moses...etc...

I am, however, interested in any ACCURATE historical information on Jesus just because I am, as yet, not quite an atheist, and am always looking for information that puts a logical light on biblical "traditions".

My Own Personal Jesus

How can one separate the historical Jesus from the traditional Jesus of faith? Either Jesus is who He said He is, or He is a raving lunatic. Either He was resurrected from the grave, or he wasn't. One cannot separate who he claimed to be and who we believe Him to be. It boils down to this, what made his followers go from running away to being willing to die for the cause? Was it because they experienced a resurrected messiah, just as the prophets foretold?

This is a distinction many of us find false. It was introduced mid-19th century by German academics such as Bruno Bauer and those who began what is known now as Higher Criticism or the Higher Critical Method. Wellhausen's GEDP theory is an application of it. I do not subscribe to many of the premises that drives this kind of research, but it is still quite popular because it provides a completely secularized approach to religious texts. So it has political advantages even if it can be questioned on many other grounds, especially philosophical and theological.

the priority is, at that factor, very few human beings have been written approximately mutually as they have been alive. Writing approximately issues grow to be only no longer the perfect thank you to maintain history, for the reason that they had no longer arise with equipment that made the writings extremely available, or waiting to stand up to the exams of time. The supplies they used extremely disintegrated (for this reason, why they stored copying them each and every so in many situations) except stored in sealed jars (like the lifeless Sea scrolls have been) in a dry place. The leaders on the time stored persecuting people who believed in Christ, and stored attempting to quell the theory that Jesus had risen from the lifeless. They tried to discredit Him. it extremely is evident from later writings. They insisted that His mom grow to be a whore, that He grow to be a sorcerer who grow to be possessed by utilising devil, that His believers have been a member of a cult, that His believers had practices that have been inhuman (which they did no longer)...the record is going on and on. it extremely is evident from texts relationship back to the previous due first century and with the aid of the 2nd century. as a techniques because of the fact the recent testomony is going, the very final e book familiar as canonical grow to be written in approximately ninety 5 A.D. the 1st actual grow to be written as early as fifty 5 A.D. maximum human beings have been written previous to 70 A.D. that extremely isn't that long after the reality. maximum issues weren't written until a techniques while they befell, in the event that they have been written approximately in any respect. Christianity itself, nonetheless, dates back to approximately 33-35 A.D. that is interior of three to 5 years after Jesus grow to be crucified and all that. And it originated in Jerusalem, that's the place that is claimed that Jesus grow to be crucified, and the place His tomb grow to be/is. Myths some guy or woman take plenty longer to completely variety. Oh, and John the Baptist in no way wrote something. He died until now Jesus did. maximum human beings of the earliest writings of Jesus are in the recent testomony. i be responsive to what you're thinking, "yet they made all of it up!" Why might they try this? What did they income? And maximum historians value the recent testomony so a techniques as historic reliability. The words they use, the places they describe (such because of the fact the Pool of Bethesda), the human beings they describe...all is precise. And the words they use are thoroughly precise to the middle/previous due first century.

I'm curious as to what the historical Jesus may have been like, once one peels away the layers of doctrine and propaganda.

Historical Jesus.

He was obviously an amazing person if we're still talking about him today. It's fascinating to see what they're able to learn about his life, and how it compares to the myth.
