Well we decided to get engaged, and are in the process of picking rings. He just wants a simple band, doesnt matter whether its silver or gold. What i would like is to get a band that will last a very long time. He works with his hands, hes a mechanic, works on a crewboat and he also does roofing and construction. I just dont want to get a band that will get all scratched up or break in half after a year lol so does anyone have personal expirences or any tips they can give me?
Thanks!

Most people I know that work with their hands like that - won't wear rings at work. (Fear of getting it caught in engine parts, electrocution, etc).

But - another option is to get him a chain to match the ring - so he can wear it around his neck while he's working.

I think you mean wedding band, rather than engagement ring, right? Men generally don't wear the ring until the wedding ceremony. I just had a basic gold band and it was very durable. I worked with my hands too, for many years and took no special precautions at all. So if you just go with a basic gold wedding band, I think you'll be happy with it.

My fiance is a private contractor who spends a lot of time covered in paint and drywall dust, etc.
When we picked out his ring we got a simple silver band, and it's actually held up very well.
Granted, he's only been wearing it about six months now.
His father is in the same line of business and has been wearing his silver wedding band for the past 22 years, and he's only had to have it "buffed up" once for one scratch along the side of it.

My husband works with his hands also. Construction, lumber, forklift etc. His ring is all messed up!! some times he has to even take it off to work the lumber machine cause it can be very dangerous.
unfortunately the ring is going to get scratched. So we went with the silver, for some reason the gold REALLY showed the scratches more.
good luck

My opinion. Get two! One that is of more value and matches your wedding band and one that is a little cheaper but carries the meaning of your heart for him to work in. I work for a contractor and 2 out of the 3 guys I work with have two wedding rings for that reason specifically. This way that one that is used in the ceremony never gets a scratch or ding on it when they are working on building houses.

My dad is a mechanic and his hand got in a piece of equipment due to wearing the ring. He almost lost his hand and his ring broke in two.

That being said, have him try out a "practice" ring first (on another finger of course) to see if he can safely manage working with a ring on. If he can, then I'd advise titanium. Gold bends way to easily- mine bent after shoveling in the backyard!

Good luck and congratulations!

We have had our rings for 4 years now and you really cannot go wrong with your basic gold bands.

I would just suggest getting good THICK bands as they will feel and look better over the long haul. We are both really hard on our rings but a quick shine and they look as good as they did the day we first put them on!

Good luck to you!

More than likely he will take his ring off when he works, you really don't want to know what happens to a man's finger when that ring gets caught. I have seen pictures and it is horrible. I am sorry for being morbid, but he really shouldn't wear his ring while he is working. My husband's company that he works for doesn't allow him to wear it because of the danger associated with wearing a wedding band while working. On a lighter note, most men won't want something that is flashy, mine just wanted something traditional, and since he can't wear it to work, he takes it off before going in, and puts it back home when he comes in. His is made of gold and so is mine. We wanted to be traditional. But just ask him. Get him something that is strong but something that he can easily take off. One ring that my husband had was really difficult to take off and he worried all day because he was working at the time and at his old job seen ppl get hurt with their rings on.

GOOD FOR YOUR FIANCE. When my now husband and I got engaged, people 'avoided me' because I had a ring on my left hand, but girls tried to 'catch his eye' because he didn't, so he told me to get him an 'engagement ring.' You don't have to get anything 'fancy' or expensive. I got him a nice silver ring with inlaid turquoise to wear until he put on his 'wedding ring' that is EXACTLY like mine ... three simple silver bands that are 'interlocked' with each other ... they remind us that there is a 'third partner' in our marriage ... GOD. We are 'together forever and beyond.' Get your guy a nice 'silver' ring, and if it 'breaks' it won't cost a ton to get him a new one ... and your guy is SPECIAL to wear an 'engagement' ring, since most guys would SHUDDER at the thought!

Most guys don't get engagement rings, they only get a wedding ring.

However, if you are insistent on getting a ring, I suggest something made of tungsten or titanium. They are not tremendously expensive but are very durable. This maybe much more comfortable and practical for your man.

I think that with his kind of work is best if he does not wear his right while working. It might be a bit dangerous. My friend is a mecanic and he does not wear his. His ring ones got caught and bent and he had to cut in two to tale it off. So buy something nice but dont expect him to wear it during work. Regardless of a ring if a man is gona love he is gona do it with or without a ring.

Besides you know he is gona be your husband who else need to know but you.

Good luck
