I took in 4 stray kittens raised them till they were 6 weeks old and found homes for them. Now I have fleas. I have had an exterminator here twice, done all the required cleaning, used 7dust and borax. I have spent over a month cleaning my a** off and I still have fleas. Funny thing is, after treating my home we don't see any fleas for a week, then they magically reappear. Can anyone help? I am on the verge of a mental breakdown and have no clue what to do. In total I have spent around $200 trying to get rid of the fleas. I am disabled with a heart condition and 2 children to raise. I am at my financial end. Please only serious answers!!!

Ohhh dear - I'm afraid you haven't used any proper treatment yet, that's why it isn't working! I hear this so often, people spend incredible amounts of money, but on the wrong things.

Pop in to a vets. You need a housespray like Indorex, Skoosh, Staykil or Acclaim. You need to spray, then vacuum the next day, then REPEAT the process about a week later to get the flea eggs that will have now hatched. If you get hold of Skoosh www.skooshthefleas.com you will not need to repeat the process because it's the only product that kills the flea eggs and pupae as well as the adult fleas.

Veterinary products are more expensive that store-bought ones - because they work. So you won't need to spend another $200 - more like $30! I don't know what chemicals exterminators use, but not the right ones apparently. I'm not surprised the Borax and Sevin dust didn't work.

I take it there are no more animals in your house, and that none ever come in? Obviously if you do ever have animals in they will need to be treated too. Very possibly you've got fleas continuously reinfesting from the outside, you may need to spray regularly - recommend Staykil or Acclaim in this case because they last for a year.

EDIT: No, don't use anything from a store, these are cheap pesticides that don't work and can be dangerous - especially Hartz, stay away! If you're going to use store-bought products you're going to end up spending another $200 at least trying to find one that works.

Sounds like everything you are doing is not killing the eggs. I had the same problem and what I did was go to the vet's office and get something made specifically to use in the home that kills both adult fleas and larvae. I use it on mine once a week and have seen a vast improvement but it will take time to rid your house entirely of fleas. If you can't afford the vet's stuff, I also used Hartz 3 in 1 household flea spray I bought at KMart and it worked well too. Good luck.

use garlic powder, use it from one end of the house to the other. (on the carpet of course, fleas live in carpets) keep doing this every day, once a day, and after a week or so you won't see a flea any where. and to keep them gone, repeat about every other day. fleas HATE garlic. good luck.

p.s. you can go to any store and get it.

I had to bug-bomb four times to get rid of them all. Read the instructions on the bug-bomb carefully. You have to time it so that the first time you bomb you kill the adults, and the second time you kill the new ones that just hatched.
