They wrongly associate their own values as being directly correspondant to their religion. They are incapable of seeing the other side of things because to risk taking that peek, is a threat to their blind faith.

The bible says Atheists are without hope. The bible says ALL who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior are without eternal hope and without true guidance in this world. The Christian merely quotes and uses the bible because that's the Word they live by. They have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.
Non believers could understand a lot more once they've "balanced the bicycle" but they must put forth the effort to see what all the excitement is about. The evil one will always try to keep them disillusioned. Non believers should take one minute and read the following scripture, please!
1 Corinthians 1:20 Where [is] the wise? where [is] the scribe? where [is] the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

If you could tell us more about which Christians believe that atheists are without hope, then perhaps we could answer your question better. I don't know, or know of, any Christians who deny that atheists experience the feeling of hope.
I also am unaware of any source, other than Andrew Weaver's bold declaration, of evidence for the idea that scientists are less inclined to quitting than non-scientists.

what are you hoping in and for? Christians are the only ones that have hope beyond this earth- if we are just hoping in this life, then we are very sad indeed. No matter how great your life may be going now, know that one day something will come into your life, that you wish was not there, and what you are hoping in will not bring you through. It is the object of the hope that we are talking about- the only true, and lasting hope is Christ.
"My hope is built on nothing less, then Jesus' blood and righteousness, I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but solely lean on Jesus' Name".
We as humans can put our hope in many things and other people, but until that hope lives in Christ alone- we will never find true and lasting peace.

You know what, come to think of it, there is no such thing as a bona fide "atheist," on this earth... not according to God anyway. In God's book, those who insist on saying that there is no God are declared to be fools. "The fool says in his heart, there is no God." Psalm 14:1. Anyone who claims to be an atheist is a fool since he refuses to acknowledge the most obvious fact, that God is "for since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead." Romans 1:20. Therefore, "they are without excuse." Romans 1:19.
Therefore, God has put in the hearts of all who are born into this world the thought of Him, the thought of eternity. The very fact that we breathe is an evidence of God's presence for "In Him we live and move and have our being." Acts 17:28.
"Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth before the difficult days come..." Ecclesiastes 12:1,6.
A Christian writer put it this way: "The mechanism of the human body cannot be fully understood. It presents mysteries that baffle the most intelligent. It is not as the result of a mechanism, which once set in motion, continues to work, that the pulse beats and breath follows breath. 'In God we live and move and have our being.' Acts 17:28. The beating heart, the thrubbing pulse, every nerve and muscle in the living organism is kept in order and activity by the power of an ever-present God."
By His Spirit He is everywhere present! Psalm 137:9.

BA (not) to the dude who's decided we don't believe in emotions because we can't see them!!!
I think he's a wee bit confused on the concepts here.
To answer your question, when pushed on it, a lot of fundamentalist Christians start quoting their pastor or Bible. They seem to engage in the too-common practice of finding only what they decide to look for.

When I believed I used to say that I chose to do so because I didn't want to live my life without hope. What I failed to realize was that there is plenty of hope to be had without believing in God.
The "hope" they are referring to is the hope of seeing loved ones again, or the hope that we will live forever.
I'm personally fine without that hope, now that I've accepted it.
I have hope in other, more important things.

I've always thought Atheists had more hope than Christians. Christians are all "Well, this world sucks, better pray for the apocalypse," while Atheists realize that working towards a better future is what's really important.

Well, what is an athiest? It's someone who has denied the diety of Christ.
(You can't deny the person of Christ. It's historically proven he existed)
OK, who is Christ? He is God in the flesh. Meaning he gave up most of his abilities, to be put down to man's level. The one thing that still made him different than any other man, was that he was perfect, he never sinned.
Why did Christ do that? I mean if he's GOD, why did he lay aside his powers, just to be a man? He did it so he could die for your sin. God cannot tolerate sin, sin has to be punished. But even then, he didn't abandon us. He came down in the flesh to provide a way to be forgiven. He died a painful death on a wooden cross, then rose again (proving his diety once more), and ascended into Heaven, where he is still today, interceding for us.
ok, what is hope? A desire that things will be better in the end. Christ is our hope. Without Him, we would spend eternity in Hell, paying for our own sin. But he died in our place. All we have to do is believe in Him, that he provided the only way.
So, without Christ, there is no hope.
But....it is my hope, my desire that there's a better end for you. It's my hope that one day you will accept Christ, that one day you'll accept the hope he offers. That's my desire. And my prayer.
