Of course this is! its my best friend! go to run.exe (on start menu on most windows OS's), and type msconfig (not with windows 2000). choose the tab "start-up" and deselect the items!

Ditto the above, about Start--> Run--> then msconfig
...and pick the last tab, and uncheck things you don't want to start...

...Just be blamed careful you know what you're unchecking!!! If you're not sure, you could cause a real problem. Make sure it's THE program that you have in mind.

Then, once you okay your change, you'll be prompted to restart your computer, and after you Restart, the msconfig window will come up after you get logged on, and tell you that your configuration has changed (you knew that, que no?), so you can check the box that says, Don't show me this window again.

Most of the programs that startup with Windows will have an option within their menu to disable such action. It is best to do it from within the offending program because sometimes these programs have a way of re-entering through a back door.

Yahoo Messenger is an example. How many ever times you remove it through msconfig > StartUp > Remove the tick method, each time you start Yahoo Messenger manually, it checks to see if it is set to start up automatically and if not adds another entry to that list without asking you. If you now go back to msconfig and see there will be 2 Yahoo Messenger entries.

This can only be prevented by entering Options of Yahoo Messenger and de-selecting the option to start up with Windows (This can only be done AFTER you log-in to Yahoo.)

Removing Items From Startup

run command "msconfig", it would open a new window and would have an option for startup.

remove tick from all the programs you dont want to start up and appear in taskbar.

alternatively you also can go into the indiviual programs you want to disable from starting up or appearing in taskbar through there own settings, all softwares/program have option to disable the icon from appearing in task bar.

hope this helps.

go to start, all programs, startup and delete the one you dont want to start up when windows starts and if that dosent work then you can go into your sys.ini. and edit the registry for the programs you dont want to start.
