Right click on the slide, choose Slide -> Page Setup...

Click on the background Tab.

Choose from the Fill drop down list, then choose colors or gradiant.

If you want a stock OO image for the background, you have to select bitmap from the fill list.

If you want to use a custom image for the slide background, close the Page Setup dialog, and then choose Format - Area. Click the Bitmaps tab, and then click Import. Locate the image you want to import and click Open. When you return to the Background tab, the image you imported will be in the Bitmap list.

This is one area where Micosoft PowerPoint is much better.

there is not any such element (to a working laptop or laptop) as "history shade of a png". in case you prefer to alter the colour of what we'd evaluate the history (probably a gaggle of white pixels), you may might desire to apply a picture editor to alter the white into sparkling, or in spite of shade you like it to be.
