Breastfeeding a normal, natural process between a mother and baby. The fact that our society makes an issue out of it is absurd.
It is easy enough to be discreet while breastfeeding, no matter where you are. Breastfeeding mothers can be considerate of those around them, and onlookers can be considerate of breastfeeding mothers and babies. If everyone observed a little more courtesy towards others, instead of promoting their self-interests, public breastfeeding would not even be an issue.

My sister breastfed her son until he was 1.5 years old. It took her hours to get an ounce of milk from a pump, the boy wouldn't even latch on to a plastic nipple. Bottles are not the same as the breast. More fluid comes out of the plastic nipple at once compared to a breast..it's not even close to the same feel and the way it works. Both breastfeeding and using a bottle hinders the breastfeeding relationship. Too much milk at once can give a child an upset stomach and frequent bowel movements. Breastfeeding is legal wherever the mother is allowed to be. That means she can do whatever the hell she wants. Trust me people, you see more boob on a beach or in a magazine compared to a woman breastfeeding(of course it varies from women to women). Some babies hate having a blanket over their head while eating, some won't take a bottle. I will breastfeed wherever and whenever I want. Is using a bottle like whipping out a dildo to you people? I mean it's a OMG sexual nipple. Breastfeeding is not like peeing or pooping in public. Breastfeeding is not like having sex in public for all to see, hear, and smell.
Breastfeeding is feeding. Breasts are meant to feed babies.

I plan on breatfeeding and I will not hesitate to do it in public. My boobs have really done nothing for me in life thus far except get in my way!! They can finally be used for what they are intended to do. The people that stare and gawk at women breastfeeding in public are probably the same ones to give an odd look to a disabled person. I am not sure why people are always so concerned with people they don't even know. I was always taught growing up that you can't control other people's actions, but you can and should control your own.

A woman's right to breastfeed or express breast milk in public is protected under law in this country. In my state it is illegal to interfere with a breastfeeding mother. I am a nursing mother, i feed my son when hes hungry. I would much rather see a woman nursing her baby than hear one crying because they were hungry.
As for people saying that they show too much, the low cut shirts that women wear show more skin than a nursing mother does.
Why should a woman have to hide simply because she chose to breastfeed her child rather than bottle feed? Breastfeeding is what is best for a healthier child (im not bashing bottle feeding, my daughter was on formula after i had to stop nursing).
How a woman chooses to feed her child shouldn't be any ones business but hers. I have stated this many times on this forum: People need to mind their own business! If a woman feeding her child the way nature intended offends you then DO NOT LOOK! You can cover your head with a blanket or take your lunch to the bathroom, because I REFUSE to do this to my son!

There shouldn't be any question on whether or not breastfeeding should be allowed in public. It SHOULD be allowed wherever the mother and baby are. It is a perfectly normal thing and should be allowed anywhere. There is nothing sexual, dirty, or shameful about it. As matter of fact, most of the time, breastfeeding mothers will go out of their way to NOT attract attention, and even if someone would happen to see it, still manages to show less skin than most of the clothing that young women (and some older women) wear. Why is it that an infant latched onto a breast taking nourishment is less acceptable than a skimpy top or ultra low rise jeans complete with thong showing?
EDIT: To the first poster: Your 4 year old would most likely be more tolerant of seeing a breast and nipple than you think. Young children readily accept the explaination that mommies make a milk there especially for their babies because babies are too tiny to eat regular food. The only thing that causes a problem is when the adults that are doing the explaining act as though its some filthy unnatural act that children become upset by that.
To C. C. - Why don't you go have your lunch in a toilet stall if it's such a wonderful place to eat!

It's none of my business, really.
Truth be told, I'm not particularly fond of the idea of seeing someone feed her child. I understand that it's natural, and I understand that the baby needs to eat...and perhaps if and when I have children, I will grow to feel differently about it...but at this point in my life...it doesn't really BOTHER me, but it...it kinda depends on the situation, you know?
You said public. I have no problem with someone breastfeeding in a park, as you said, because you can still be in the park and be able to be far enough away from her where you don't have to see it...if that's an issue for you. One time, though, there was a woman breastfeeding IN LINE AT THE BANK. While this IS natural, and it IS really none of my business, the other fact of the matter is that I was stuck next to her, and without throwing off my whole schedule, couldn't just abandon my position in line.
It should NOT be illegal to breastfeed in public...it is a natural thing. However, I just wish people would use some common courtesy...not everyone thinks that birth/early human life is a wonderful thing to be adored.
So yeah...do your own thing, just don't be obnoxious about it.

I nursed my son exclusively til he was 18months old. I nursed in public whenever needed. There isn't anything wrong with breastfeeding in public, as long as you are not exposing your whole self. :)
Sad thing is that I'll bet that most who find it "inappropriate" would have no problem watching a movie that shows totally exposed breasts.
People need to get a grip. For those who thing breastfeeding is "disgusting" or nasty, they have a lot of growing up to do. This is why women have breasts in the first place. :)

Breastfeeding is a totally natural part of life. Believe it or not guys, boobs aren't just there for entertainment value! I breastfed my son until he weaned himself at 13 months. I see nothing wrong with breastfeeding in public - in fact, it's illegal to make a woman stop breastfeeding just because she's in a public area. When my son was young, meeting his nutritional needs took precedence over other people's comfort. Still, I tried to be discrete and cover up - not because I cared about offending someone, but because so many perverts turn something so natural and healthy into something sexual that I didn't want to deal with it.
My favorite response I've heard someone say to someone who said her breastfeeding in public was offending them: "Well, I'm offended by the fact that you so coldly stick a plastic bottle in your kid's mouth instead of feeding with love, so could YOU please stop?"

Any woman that knows what she is doing will be able to breastfeed without flashing her whole boob nipple and all to the world.
I think that babies should be fed when babies are hungry.
Honestly I see alot more from some teenage whores running around the mall and places in low cut midriffs than I do from women that breast feed in public.
