How deep is your pocket ?

Best for cost, performance, MPG and Street Cred. I rate the Alfa-Romeo 156, ideally the 2.0 petrol engine. Red or silver is OK but the metallic sky blue is even better (If you can find one). Ignore 16V badges, all Alfa engines post 1988 have 4 valves per cylinder.

Great handling, bomb proof engine, a super slick 5 speed box and 135 MPH on just 2.0 litres is tough to beat.

Now go find somewhere that you can use it to it's full potential.

Honda Accord I owned one that unfortunately i did not give it much maintenance and it drove to the end.
