If all religion was erased from the world, then they would find something else to fight over. The Civil War was not about religion, nor was all the trouble that occurred in South Africa.

"Its those of little religious beliefs, who are the instigator for violence"

And if you want to use Myanmar as an example I suggest you go and do some reading - the problems in Myanmar were caused by many factors, one of which was the conflict between religious and ethic groups that stopped the formation of a democratic state after the war. No doubt other ridiculous belief systems would have been invented, but without modern religions Britain would not have tried to Christianise Burma, the Japanese would not have fought for their immortal Emperor when conquering Burma, and .... I dont really need to go on do I?

'Its those of little religious beliefs, who are the instigator for violence' ... you say.

What about fundamentalist muslims who kill non-believers? What about catholics and protestants killing each other in Ulster? And those are only two examples. Also, what kind of 'democracy' do you think the buddhist monks want to restore in Burma? How did the poor 'subjects' of the dalai lama live under his regime? (I am not condoning the current regime either.)

There might be more peace in the world without religion; there might be more democracy. But it would not be automatic. We still need to use our brains and work together. Imagine...

If all was wiped out or outlawed the situation would be much worse. The Islamic movement (religion ) is very war like and has been for a very long time , so how do you explain that .
The Jewish and Christian religions had their own wars and have now calmed down to a point. There will be no peace on this earth till God reigns completely and its citizens are in complete alignment with Him we are now in the days as the time of Noah

i don't think they generally consider Buddhism as a religion and to an extent they are right Buddhists don't like talking about things in a religious sense but prefer a philosophical debate.
If you look at what religion does in terms of peace and violence and weigh the consequenses of each result you will see what they are refering to, althought it is the actions of people within these groups that cause it with the use of religion. As long as their is conflict of oppinion and interest peace can not be realised

Hey religion should not be outlawed, you cannot make a generalisation like that thinking all us religous people make the violence some of us are just trying to worship peacefully.
Besides there are so amny horrible people there would only be something else to fight about.

BTW i am in total support of the monks more power to them i say.

Religion should not be outlawed.

You know there was a theory made by Arthur de Gobineau, he believed that the white race is superior (yes, invented by him). Hitler started war cause he thought this theory was correct... not only of course - there were many other motives, but the superior race was the main one. So are religious people to blame for the II World War? No.

There are wars for power, money, and other materialistic things.

But those who do believe in God, and are Real Religious People, will they start violence? will they start a war? No. Those who want to be the "perfect, one and only one" religion are only looking for power. - seen as above, power brings, with time, wars, one of many motives to start one.

Those who are fighting now "for" religion, "for" God they forgot one thing... what is this? Forgive. They forgot that they should forgive those actions that were hundreds, thousands of years ago. Why to fight over a thing that started then, now?

You know: "There was a person who killed another one of different (race, religion, etc). When he was asked why did he killed that person, he replied: "I just found out that they invaded our country some years ago...". "

Are we like this fellow in the story? Well now... yes...
Do you want to remain like this? No.
What is there to do? Remember... what? Remember to forgive.

Hateful people use whatever is available to justify their actions and convince others to follow them, religion and nationalism are just the two most commonly used "tools".

Outlawing something doesn't stop it, the drug and slave trades are illegal, but despite the efforts of most governments they continue. Banning religion would be counter-productive, because banning religion would tend to foster religious extremism, usually hostile to the system that banned it.

If there was no religion in the world, don't assume there would be no violence. Humans always fight over something or the other, if it wasn't over religion it would be over race, money or land etc.

A lot of hate exists in the world which is wholly to do with religion and nothing else. What do you think the Crusades were about?
