There could be all kinds of reasons; they should be examined by a vet. It could be your female cat has a disease. I suggest that you get her and the dead kittens to a vet to find out what the problem is.

My condolences. You must be so upset by such an event.
Unless you get an autopsy performed you cannot know for sure, but if they had breathing problems it is possible they had a respiratory infection.
How is the mother doing? If she seems unconcerned it is possible that they were in some way physically defective and she sensed it and knew they would not live. Is she still lactating? If so, take her to the vet as she could get abcesses if she continues to make milk but has no kittens to give it to.
Also, if she is grieving the loss of her babies, you might enquire at your vet's or local animal rescue organization to see whether anyone has orphaned kittens who need nursing.
Cats are very emotional creatures and can suffer tremendously when they lose a family member or feline friend.

Aw ... poor little things.
You need to take Mum to the vet ASAP and have her checked over.
Was there any reason that you did not take the kittens to the vet when you saw that they had breathing problems?
What ever your reasons your Cat has just lost all her babies suddenly and will wonder what has happened to them, do the right thing and have your cat checked out just to be safe, also the vet should probably be able to tell you what they think the kittens died of.
Good luck.

Oh how upsetting for you! There is something called fading kitten syndrome, where an apparently healthy litter of kittens can fade and die very quickly (www.kittens-lair.net/raising-a-cat) but as you mention they had breathing difficulties, it could be cat flu. Perhaps a chat with your vet would throw some light on this x

Happened to my friend all her kittens died, it was to do with the cats blood group and who the cat matted with, think my friends cat was blood group B and therefore could only be matted with the same blood group, think blood group B is quite rare in cats, I might have my facts wrong but I know it was something to do with the blood groups but I will say all the kittens died within hours to days, so they never made it to being weeks old, so it might have nothing to do with this at all.

Sounds like a virus like FIE. If you havent buried the kittens yet, take them to the vet and the vet will do tests to find out.

Well believe it or not that's normal. My dad has a friend who has 11 cats and one of them gave birth to 6 kittens. He delivered them. But they died as well. It's very normal for a mother cat to "abandon" her kittens. That's her way of not wanting them. She might not have given them the correct amount of milk or something, But, next time be prepared! If she has another litter, have a can of powdered cats milk ready, feed them yourself. I am really sorry they died. But don't feel bad. She might have another litter. Blessings to you!

Hard to say without more information, but worms and distemper would probably be the most common causes, with Feline Leukemia also being a possibility.

Without seeing the kittens or knowing the specifics it would be hard to say. You would need a vet.
I am so very sorry though you had this happen.

I'm so very sorry your cat lost her babies, thats really sad, bless her. You must be feeling it too, seeing your cat mourning her loss, its awful eh? No one on here will have the answers that will make you feel better but it wouldn't change anything if they did, whats happened has happened and all we can do is sympathise with you, which we do, of course. Your cat will be feeling 100% worse than you do, they were her kids and if they only lived for a few hours, she loved them and she'll miss them terribly. I know you're hurting but you have to be strong and put your feelings aside for now, cry when she can't see or hear you! Concentrate your everything on making her feel a bit better, mother her lots and cuddle her loads, she's in mourning. In time, when she's feeling a bit better, have her spayed, please, she's not meant to be a mummy. My thoughts are with you all, god bless. A tiny flower, lent, not given, to bud on earth and bloom in heaven x
