I would assume running clears out the lungs... my good friend has been smoking weed almost daily since he was 8 (he is 19 now) and can run a 4:35 mile. He has a pulse of 48 and his doctor says he is very healthy. I know this because we have been the top 2 on our XC team for a couple of years. Statistically speaking, almost everyone that smokes never exercises and die from a combination of problems, I would say you're fine as long as you keep exercising.

I was just talking to someone about this last night.
I don't know any statistics, but I myself have been smoking about a 1/2 pack a day for about 10 years. I have tried several times to quit....usually I can cold turkey.
I've figured out that its more a emotional attachment then an addiction and perhaps a way to combat boredom.
Anyway...i'm curious myself....I smoke and am around others who smoke and don't constantly cough or have to cough up phlem like a lot of smokers i know.....

it's impossible to know. It's more than just smoking that causes the cancer. it's genetics combined with other environmental factors.
My advice, just quit, you don't want to risk anything. There are people who smoke several packs a day for years on end and have no problems. while there are people who've maybe breathed in second hand smoke once in a while and develope cancer.

It takes approx 25 - 30 years for cancer to develop, therefore, if you continue it is more likely but you are not doomed either, it depends on alot of factors, genetics, smoking, environmental, age, etc. My father smoked 4 packs of Pall Mall a day from the age of 9 to 76 and finally got Prostate cancer and died. I heard alcohol is a preservative try booze.

The answer is in your genetics. If cancer is common in your family then the chances are probably good. If not, Not so much. You can get an x-ray of your chest to be sure on what the effects of smoking is doing to you so far. I love to smoke and I was adopted so no telling what my chances are..

You could be hit by a car and killed long before the ten years are up. Enjoy life!! You sound healthy otherwise.
