I am attending the 'Khaki Ball' this weekend with my husband and I wanted to know what to expect as far as the dress code. I have never attended one and I'm not getting much information from my hubby lol. I don't want to be overdressed or underdressed. Who has been to one of these?

I've never heard of a khaki ball, which branch of the military is that for?
I've been to Marine Corps balls and the dress was a formal floor length gown type, I have worn my old HS dance/prom dresses that were fancy.

I'm going to a Khaki Ball this weekend too! I've never attended one either, but I did get a formal dress, as did my friend. Mine doesn't go to the floor, it's more tea length, but I did get it at a bridal shop. This is a special occassion and I felt as though I needed to be dressed to the 9's!!! LOL Besides like I told my friend, even if we are the only ones there that are that dressed up - we'll be the hottest lookin babes in the place. :) What base are you guys with?

Generally speaking military balls, be they enlisted, upper enlisted or officer, are formal affairs. A ball gown is appropriate, as is the $100 hair do and full facial. You can expect formal dining, "casual" conversation. Not to make you paranoid, but there will be a lot of face time and impressions drawn. Some of that will be in how well you handle the conversations. There will probably be alcohol. I'd recommend sipping only enough to be polite and nothing more. Chances are, as the hours wane on, you will find yourself a little more at ease. Be careful to not let your political guard down too much. Just try and have a little stifff necked fun.

I want to say that around here (CT) the Khaki Ball is a little less formal than the Navy or Submarine Balls. So cocktail dresses or very nice dresses are what people usually get.

congrats on his making Chief!. their uniform is their brand spanking new Khakis, so you do NOT have to go Navy Birthday Ball Formal. Sunday-go-to-Meetin' is perfectly acceptable attire.

don't know what a khaki ball is....
what branch is he in??
my husband is in the marine corps and we go to the USMC ball every year.
that is formal and requires a formal gown....think prom, but maybe more sophisticated.
did you ask him what to expect??
P.S.
the guy above me must have been going to NCO balls or officer balls, b/c the enlisted balls we go to can get a bit crazy....it's one big party!
of course, every base is different, too, though.....so.....talk to your husband and find out! or make him find out for you!!!

My husband made Chief in 06, and the way it was explained to me for that first one was "Sunday best" but not formal, or prom like. When I went I chose nice black dress pants and a flowy printed blouse and decent pumps and I fit it great. Congrats--have fun!!
