Most shower hostesses also give a gift, yes. Make her a diaper cake, it will be the talk of the shower! Plus, you can use it to play a game (have the guests guess how many diapers and what supplies are hidden in the diaper cake), it will be a gorgeous centerpiece, and then mom-to-be can take it home as your gift to her and use all the diapers and supplies. Perfect. Here's a site for inspiration:

Absolutely. Especially the person throwing the shower should get a gift. You don't have to spend what you would normally spend because of the other money you put out. But you have to get something. I don't think most people throwing baby showers spend all that much on the shower, though. Maybe in the future, re-assess how much of that is necessary or ask others to take care of certain details for you.
Part of throwing a shower is "organizing" a shower. You shouldn't have to do it all. Learn to delegate.

It's too bad you didn't think through the costs a bit better.
It would be possible to throw a perfectly nice shower cheaply.
If you haven't already spent the money, see if you can cut back.
You could get her a token gift.
My favorite thing to get is something for 6 month olds (sleep wear, for instance). Most people get things for newborns, and the baby needs clothes when they're older, too.

No, your gift is the shower. You have the expense of invitations, postage, cake, punch, nuts & mints, games & prizes, decorations, the time it takes to prepare as in cleaning your home and making all of the purchases.Wow what a lovely gift. Plus I'm sure you'll give her photos of the shower. If you really want to give her a gift put those in a small album with a card.
P.S. Remember that the prizes you buy for the games, are baby items to be given to the mommy-to-be, so you are giving her gifts.

I threw a baby shower for my cousin and I spent a whole lot more than I wanted to, in the end I did a baby bottle diaper cake. Look them up online... really unique cute idea. I put it together myself though I didn't order one online, it cost me $35. I bought a bunch of little items at walmart and babies r us and put them in a huge plastic bottle. Then buy diapers and recieving blankets. If you look online it will give you an idea. Everyone really loved this and it was a unique and inexpensive gift from me to her. Here is the site. Hope this helps!

A nice card with a very personal note inside is all that is really expected after hosting the shower...something she can put in the baby book and have forever.

My ex best friend did that for my bridal shower. She felt she already spent enough on the wedding gift so she gave me a card at the bridal shower. I was a little hurt considering I had helped her out allot. Even a small uncostly gift could have helped the burn.

No, the shower is your gift. You can get a little something for the baby after it is born.
