My hubby and I are both sick. And I do all the cooking by choice. What comfort food can I make while barely being able to stand? I have burger, that's the only meat in the house. I have about every other thing here too, canned, veggie, condiments, you name it. I also have instant mashed potatoes.

I don't care how healthy it is, just hot food. I need ideas since I'm about ready to take a couple Advil and lay down. Help with sickee food for 2 people?

P.S. There's no way to go to the store for chicken noodle soup.

Don't Cook. Call for take out. Your sick, so spurge. Thats what I do.
Thers always a place that will deliver that has Mild soup or Comfort foods. Heck, Boston market delivers in most areas. Or try your local search for delivery.
Feel Better.

Shephards pie (actually cottage pie if it's made with beef instead of lamb).

Sautee up some chopped onion, add beef and a bit of garlic powder and lightly brown. Add whatever canned veggies you have on hand (mixed veggies, peas, corn, green beans, carrots, mushrooms, etc), plus your favorite herbs. A few splashes of worcesteshire if you have it.

In a small sauce pan, make a rouix from flour and butter and stir in some broth (beef or chicken). Add that to your meat and veggies and simmer for a few to get the flavors going and thicken slightly. Thin with plain broth if it gets too thick. No exact measurements here, just make the mixture a bit wet.

Make your instant mashed potatoes. Layer beef mixture in the bottom of a casserole, top with mashed, bake for about 40 mins until bubbly. Some people like to sprinkle shredded cheddar on top of the mashed potatoes.

You'll want to have a good 2 inches deep layer of mashed, so use a smaller deeper casserole if you need to, rather than having to spread the mashed too thin over a wide casserole.

The last time I was sick, I made a quick chicken and veggie soup. I guess you don't have any chicken--do you have chicken broth or chicken buillion cubes? If so, you can use that as a base for a quick "chicken" soup--just add a few cans of veggies (whatever looks good) to the broth (or hot water + a buillion cube), heat to a simmer, and it's ready to serve! You can also add some instant rice or small pasta (like orzo) if you have some handy, and simmer until it is cooked. If not, just the chicken broth and veggies will be tasty and healthy. I hope you feel better soon. :)

Maybe you could go for a simplified shepherds pie.

Just season the meat however you like, put it in the bottom of a casserole type pan, put the mashed potatoes on top of the meat, add cheese if you like on top or dabs of butter and bake until a little crusty.
You could add some canned peas (drained) ot other veggie to the meat when you put it in the casserole dish.

Hope you both feel better soon.

If you can hardly stand, Shepard's pie is too complicated.
Make a healthy soup by browning ground beef with chopped onion and pour off grease. Add other veggies and chicken stock and add instant potatoes. Don't use hot peppers of any kind.
This should take about 15 minutes.
Get well!

Do you have colds or are you nauseous? For colds, I'd suggest hot liquids esp. lemonade...drink it as hot as you can stand it and go to bed and sweat it out...For nausea, Jello is always easy and goes down well...you can fix it in a hurry and crawl back under the covers and eat soda crackers till it's jelled.. poached eggs on toast is always our comfort food...(do you have an egg poacher?) if not... boil water and drop egg in boiling water till cooked the way you like it. Put it on a piece of toast and I like to add just a bit of the hot water to make the toast soggy..** Nausea... Coca Cola , drink it room temp. if you can...If you can't hack it this way then go ahead and drink it cold from the fridge..(works faster if not cold tho'.)... Also, try just sipping on jello...take a Tablespoon of the dry jello and add enough real hot water just to dissolve it and drink slowly.. you can dissolve more if you want, just don't overdue... Hope you 2 are feeling better by this time...What symptoms do you have...I could better suggest if I knew this...Don't you have someone who'd go to the grocery store and get you something you'd really like to have right now? Pizza if you feel like it...or any of the handy froz. entrees in the freezer case that you can zap in the microwave.. Ice Cream is always good if you aren't nauseated..When you feel this punk...ice cream should be what you deserve...!!! .It's actually a real treat for when you or someone is ill! I've raised children and cared for grandchildren and am also a CNA, I've taken care of lots of sick people...

Hello:

What about some meatloaf and baked potatoes? You can bake both of those things right in the oven, and you won't have to stand over a hot stove. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids so you won't dehydrate, and get lots of rest too!

Do you have any pasta? Maybe some some pasta with garlic, olive oil and crushed red pepper flakes. Garlic helps a cold and the pepper flakes will make a runny or stuffy nose clear up.
