W = F*d

d = W/F

d = W/Fg <-----Fg is the force due to gravity

d = W/(m*g)

d = (600 J)/(20 kg * 9.80 m/s^2)

d = 3.1 m

*** You lifted the bale of hay 3.1 meters.

a 20 kg object near earth exerts 9.81 x 20 = 196.2 N. W = FxD so, W/F = D, 600/196.2 = 3.06 m. be sure to check your units.

You did 600J of work to change its potential energy from 0 to 600J. Potential energy is given by
Ep=mgh where h is height, m is mass, and g is gravity (9.8 m/s²) so
600 = 20 * 9.8 * h => h = 3.06 meters.
