There are not hundreds of thousands of protesters on the streets because quite simply there are not hundreds of thousands of people who feel strongly enough the same way that you do.
3,800 killed soldiers is terrible, however the U.S lost 300,000 in the same amount of time in World War 2 and not all of them were volunteers like they are now.
The other thing is that whatever your viewpoint, it is now universally recognised that the hate that was spat out at your young men returning traumatised from Vietnam by the "peace brigade" was not honourable, human or laudable. Many now look back in shame at that.

There are three times more Americans in prison than in the military. The military hasn't made the top 10 most dangerous job in the last 10 years. About 95,000 Americans die each year from medical mistakes.
Here are two main reason why there aren't the mass protests.
There is no draft. People make the choice to go into the military.
The Soviet Union was funding the peace movement in 60s and 70s. people were paid with drugs and money to protest. Now planners have to pay the police and insurance before they can get a permit to protest. People refuse to get the money to protest. The KGB was happy to come up with the money. People have jobs and living paycheck to paycheck. The peace movement was made up of the very rich, the homeless and the drug addicts.

It is sad and pathetic what some Americans today seem to be more preoccupied with. And that isn't just "young" Americans either...50 cent called 9/11 a "monumental day" for the release of his new album...what did TRL have to say? Not much...pathetic along with Kanye West (I have lost respect for both of them). I think people have "settled" and the aftermath of 9/11 is seeming to wear off and the "it's about me" generation is coming back full swing. People would rather blind themselves to tragedy because it doesn't fit their idea of a "good time" so celebrities become the focus and the true heroes are ignored. Let them feel the way they want to...it's just a pathetic attempt to shield themselves form reality....Reality is that in war people die...sad but true. Pick up a history book...

Kwitcherbellyakin, buttholes like you hit the street in the 60s and 70s to help out the enemy and you are doing just that right now. I hope you live in a large urban areas that Al Qaeda likes to target.
In the Documentary "The 10,000 day war", about Vietnam, the leader of the North Vietnamese Army, Vo Nguyen Giap admitted, after the war, that the NVA was about to give up after the Tet offensive of 1968. The war was won. But Giap noted that the protests and the defection of Walter Cronkite to the Communists side would signal a victory if they didn't sue for peace. He was right. So now, you want Al Qaeda to win? You are a totally pathetic loser. Why don't you try suicide.

My outrage is against our islamofascist enemies who are killing American soldiers and were doing so for many years before Bush became President. If not for your severe case of Bushophobia you would read the koran to see the source of motivation for our islamofascist enemies and then you would listen to what our enemies say and watch what they do and compare their actions with what you read in the koran. Pay attention to 8:12 where it tells them to behead "infidels" and 4:34 where it tells men to beat their wives.
Instead of trying to demonize those who protect your freedom you should wake up and smell the jihad.
The lack of demonstrations is proof that the American peopel support this war. Try to prove me wrong by organizing a protest yourself. I'm sure Al Qaida will sponsor it for you, and might even send a few protestors to swell your numbers.
Liberal traitors like Jane Fonda caused us to abandon our friends in Vietnam and genocide followed when we left. Why do liberals hate the Iraqi people so much they want to see genocide there? Sick! You are sick !

I am a young person with a husband serving in Iraq and everytime I see the number go up because of our soldiers killed, I get upset. The one thing you have to realize is that protesting won't do anything.

Are you kidding?!?!?!? Our dead and wounded soldiers are one a fraction of what we had in Vietnam! We are kicking But! I am not in anyway trying to demean those who have been killed or injured in Iraq. I am just saying that our losses are no where near the level they have been in any other war!

that time and war was completely different than this one. almost 4,000 killed and how long have we been over there? in the late 60's early 70's it was at 4,000 killed in a good weekend. people don't pay attention because it isn't knocking at their door. i didn't even realize the severity of it until my husband got deployed.

In the question of "was a war worth it", the cost of lives and money is weighed against whatever was gained by the war, in this case absolutley nothing has been gained and much has been lost. Iraq was a losing gamble and lost casue from day one by far. Many soldiers even admit this now.
Five soldiers lives would not be worth what we have allegedly gained in this one, and certainly not worth what we have lost.

You are an oxymoron, for calling yourself Erudite you aren't very knowledgeable. If I saw anyone treating our military the way they did during Vietnam, I would probably be incarcerated for my actions. The deaths of those men and women are tragic, but they are heroes in my eyes. I support our military. What have you done for this country today?
