hey there, i have to do a persuasive speech for my speech communication class and so i'm really clueless about what topic to go with. I mean it has to be informative and yet persuasive at the same time. And so, i don't want to choose some overused topic like euthanasia, or ufo's or abortion... boring.. need some new topic thats probably an on-going, UP-TO-DATE debatable issue..any ideas people?!

Organic food? This is an area where clearly many people could use more information, and it is also a choice to make whether or not you eat this kind of food.

I don't know how long your speech is but you might start with a definition, and some information about what is involved with organic food production, alternatives to pesticides, etc (hitting the highlights because there are a lot of techniques) and then talk about the benefits of eating organic food, the process of certifying it for the marketplace, and how you can make an informed choice to work these foods into your diet.

If your prof allows props and time allows, you might set up a simple organic snack prep and teach how to make it and then pass them out. OR you could have a simple taste test of an organic vs non organic item (like a breakfast cereal or a cracker or a fruit juice) OR you could make a dish that is easy to handle, and just pass it out.
