My Dearest Darlene:

All of the recalled cat and dog food has long been removed from the shelves of stores. The food you are able to purchase is now safe to feed to your beloved kitty cat. :)
Alas, that is not to say that another pet food recall may occur.

If you would like to be on the safe side, you may feed your kitty cat the following:
cooked, plain unseasoned chicken breast
[you may cook it in chicken broth, low salt variety]
and plain white or brown rice

To make this more palatable to your little "meower", you may mix the rice and chicken in a food processor.

Good luck w. your finicky feline!
Sincerely,
Cat lover and cat rescuer girl : )
: )
BTW, I feed my kitties Purina ONE dry cat food : )
I believe it was NEVER on the recall list : )

Fortunately, I was not feeding anything on the recall list. I have been giving my cats the same chow for their entire lives, and several have or are living long lives. While I am aware of the controversy about dry food, it was not a good study and perhaps has been twisted out of proportion. My oldest cat died of thyroid complications at age 15 1/2, and never looked her age.

My cats get IAMS Original dry food, available at all times, and a treat of a tablespoon of wet food at night. I keep the varieties of wet food narrow, so they are not finicky eaters.

In fact, changing foods a lot will result in a finicky eater. My cats are not aware of all that is out there, and are satisfied.

My major complaint about IAMS is in the packaging. You really have to read carefully to know you are getting the same food. Bag colors and designs are often confusing, as orange no longer means only one type. Some of their newer blends have by-product as first in the listing, while I demand that meat be the first ingredient.

Recalls have nothing to do with it. it is what is healthy for your cat compared to what isn't.

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard, dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods.
The problems with it are that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Most of the moisture a cat needs is gotten
out of the food and 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Also, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Please read about cat nutrition.

even tho i am in the U.K. we not as yet had a problem with recalls.
If i was in the states tho, i would straight away feed my cats home cooked foods, such as fish, chicken ect. Feel so sorry for those pets that have died. I hope the company involved get sued heavily.

Nature's Variety Instincts (venison). Canned.

I'm quite happy with it except for the price of $1.79 per can. But I'm going to suck it up because it's worth it.

The recalls didn't affect my choice, however. I had switched to a canned only diet prior to that and never planned to switch back to dry, no matter what.

I have been feeding my cat's wiskas soft food and 9 lives hard food. These were not part of the recall.

My 5 kitties have spent their lives on Iams lamb and rice, because my ragdoll couldn't tolerate any of the cheapy grocery store brands. But now that he is 14, he has lost weight, so I switched them to Felidae, and he is gaining weight already! I have one holdout who still prefers the old Iams, but my dog won't go back to her Iams. Nothing I ever fed them was ever on a recall list.
