I have always loved the IW's and would have at least one but I just hate that they have a much shorter life span than my Dachshunds. My Dachshunds are expected to live to age 16 or older. My Irish Wolfhound owning/breeding friends have told me 10 is old for the Wolfhound.

I grew up with a grey Wolfhound male, who was 38" at the shoulder - almost 4' overall. He was simply the kindest dog you could meet.
Thing is, kinda spoils you forever - I would love to be able to say 'WOW, look at the size of THAT dog', but, after Sean, none of them seem that big! lol

Yes i have heard of them
My dad brought one home when i was a kid and within a week it had trodden on something outside and got an infection in its leg at which point my little brother went near him and he bit him on his head, obviously because he was in pain and scared but i have hated the big hairy mutts since.
We also had a lurcher who had this breed in her and she was a fantastic family pet but gees dont they just look like they need a good bath and blow dry?

I've heard of them. My biggest dog has supposedly got a "bit of the Irish" in him, and I can see what people mean. He's a big softy, but he also has some German Shepherd in him and he can be nasty on command, which is useful for walks on dark winter evenings!
