i am going to be 16 in december 2007. i have heard that the minimum age for a provisional licence wiil increase from january 2008. is this true? if it is, is it possible for me to apply for the licence this year even though i am not going to be 17 until next december?

I don't think its true, it might be something they are bringing it but currently you can apply for a provisional at 16 but it will only have moped category allowed on it. You can definately apply for one this year as the law currently stands. I've just applied for my sons he's just turned 16 so I know you can.

As the law stands at the moment, the earliest you personally can apply for a provisional car licence, is October 2008.

The Government is considering changing the law, so that new drivers won't be able to obtain a full licence until they are 18. It hasn't happened yet, but a lot can change in 12 months...

The raising of the minimum age for driving to 18 was a proposal and has not been implemented.
The age at which you can apply for a provisional licence for a car is two months prior to your 17th birthday but will not become valid until that date. however, if you are registered disabled, and in receipt of full invalidity benefit, you can apply at 16yrs.

16 years of age if you are going to ride a moped and the licence carries on and when you are 17 you can drive a car in the UK

Unsure of whether you are in the UK or US but in the UK, you can apply for your provisional 2 months before your 17th birthday.

if you want a car license then you have to be 17 before you can use it unless your registered disabled then its 16 . bike licenses start at 16 the 18 rumour is just that at the moment a rumour
