The Bible says that defacing your body is a sin. Why is it that so many people are interested in defiling and defacing their bodies with this disgusting "art?" I don't get it - who agrees?!

Mouse:

I like geometry and all - but the LAST thing I'd tattoo on myself would be an angle. I mean, what exactly would I include with it for detail? A protractor?
Stupid.

I think tattoos are great indications of a person's personality.

Tattoos: heathen damned to hell
No Tattoos: god's chosen

see?

Well, first off, if you are really a believer in the Bible, I'm not sure that judging people and being so rude is the way to go. Doesn't exactly bring people over to your side of thinking - especially when posting this in a section where most are tattooed. Should have posted it in the R&S section if you wanted to find a lot of people who agree.
But more importantly, you assume all believe in the Bible......which is a big mistake to make in any arena of life. Not all of us hold your beliefs.
I'm all up for having discussions of this sort, as long as it doesn't get mean spirited.

Marks for the dead was a ritual done of soul stealers . . . with a concept that we are spiritual beings first . . . Tattoo marks probably meant to not label each other as we are not all formed the same . . .we can decorate the flesh . . . Our own art work to compliment God w/our personalities . . . The sign of the cross represents our ability for good/bad paths . . . And the crucifix should be more symbolic to not worship those who attach to the flesh . . . That formed from flesh shall remain as flesh . . . NT . . . Bless be . .

Technically, though, it's not considered a sin any longer. The quote you are referring to comes from the Old Testament. After Jesus came, a New Testament was created, thus negating the laws of the old. So technically, even if you are a Christian, I don't think it's a sin.

since you are obviously against defiling your body, i assume that you don't smoke, drink alcohol, drink caffine, use most over the counter medicines, eat fast food, or anything else that is part of americans' daily lives. i highly doubt you're that much of a naturalist.
if you find tattoos to be a "disgusting art", don't get one.
tattoos are a beautiful form of self expression.

Maybe because to that person, they are not defacing or defiling their body, maybe they see it as beautiful art and a way to adorn themselves- like earrings or rings or necklaces...

everyone....just read revelation 19:16....Jesus himself has a Tattoo, and for the people who say the Bible says that you shouldn't mark your bodies, read the verse right after that, it says women should not cut their hair. Those verses were for those people in that time frame. People were marking themselves with false gods and worshiping idols.

Hmmmm, the Bible also says, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Unless you are a nun and/or have never sinned in your life, don't judge me. You don't like tattoos, fine, but don't judge others and condemn them to hell just because of a tattoo. Leave the judging up to God.

Do you know why I hate Christians?
Cause they're so effing uppity.
They assume everybody else is a Christian, and they just ignore that there actually are other belief systems

Furthermore, I assume you are reffering to Leviticus 19:28.
Perhaps you should also look at Leviticus 19:19, which basically says that farmers who grow more than one crop are defiliing themselves by diobeying the Lord. You are too, I bet, the clothes you are presently wearing are probably "woven of two different materials"

You can pick and choose which rules of God to follow, if you want to be a hard*ss about one, be a hard*ss about all of them.

Oh how I love the radical hypocrites that infiltrate our forum...I do not go into wherever it is people like you hang out and spew my beliefs onto people who couldn't care less, so why do you feel the need to do it here? Do you think I'm going to go have my tattoos removed now? Do you think you'll actually stop anyone from getting one? It's not going to happen, so thank you for the points and please be on your way.

Well people have different beliefs if you haven't realized that. I know for some people it's a cultural thing. Not everyone reads the Bible.
