because it is an abomination unto the Lord, then why are atheists allowed to get married? What about agnostics? Hindus? Buddhists?

All of those other groups don't subscribe to either gods or the god of the bible yet they're allowed to get married. I suppose you could say they can have children so they can produce more people and gays can't do that, but then there are sterile couples or the elderly that can get married.

Why don't Christians just come out and say they think butt sex is creepy and icky and they don't like it and that's the real reason gays can't get married. At least then the public can say that's a rediculous reason and allow gays their civil rights.

Gays have all the rights that anyone else does. Marriage is one man and one women. If you don't like it, leave, there are other places with twisted view points, maybe you might try Iran?

Not everyone who is against gay marriage is a Christian.
What will amaze you even more than that is that not all Christians are against gay marriage.
A large number of people seem to think that butt sex is not only creepy and icky...but painful and degrading. From a medical pov, it is dangerous at worst, and quite unhygienic at least...
While I believe that homosexuality is an abomination unto the Lord, I also believe that only Christians ought to be bound by Christian laws...not necessarily everyone else, whether they believe in God or not.
Given the sad state the institution of marriage has got to, I don't think it really matters any more, who does or who does not have a marriage license, except for the protection of the rights of any children of the union.
But, see...that is why gay marriage does make me feel uneasy. The sexual union between a man and a woman is the beginning of each of our lives...shouldn't such an important thing at least deserve a passing nod, in our culture?
To Christians, the sexual union between a man and a woman is so important, it should only take place in a committed marriage relationship. Perhaps that law ought only to apply to Christians, as well...but then...what of the children?

What of the children?????

Gay people cannot get married because GOD says they cannot married. I personally I don't really care, but because it is important to God, I don't want gay marriages around my children, because it is against God. Why should gays have any more rights than any one else. marriages are allowed.
Who is the bride?

people can call it what ever they want. gay married, civil unions. but there is no such thing as gay marriage. it doesn't exist. the very definition of marriage is man and wife. if a society wants to call a gay union a marriage, that's fine. but the truth is it's not a marriage. and no one can change that definition. Understand?

Thank you! If the fundies just came out and said "Look we just don't like thinking about sex, and esp. not gay sex. It creeps us out and makes us feel weird" I could accept that. But nooooooo, they have to try to make the bible support their predisposed prejudices.

gays should be allowed to be as miserable as any other person, so I say civil unions for all!

just don't legislate that the church has to perform a ceremony.
