My husband wants to give the "lion's cut" to our four cats. The lion's cut is where they shave off the fur but keep the head and leg hair. I don't want my cats to look like freaks, but he doesn't want to deal with all the excess cat fur. I seen those special brushes that remove excess hair, but would this be enough to solve the problem? He wants me to make an appointment today, ahh! So please write soon cat people! Thanks.

We have 3 indoor cats, and I think I've finally gotten the hair problem under control. I went to PetSmart and picked up a little device called the Furminator (or something). It's a little razor comb thing that you groom them with and it gets at all the underneath hair which is here the shedding comes from. I get so much hair off my little guys that I sometimes swear I could knit me a whole other cat. I also picked up this little red glove thing that when rubbed one way it picks up hair off furniture and clothes, and when rubbed the other way you get the hair off the glove. I actually got 3 of them to keep in various places in the house.

Don't shave them.....they look totally silly that way.

In my opinion, cats have fur for a reason. To have it shaved off seems cruel to me. I have four cats - 2 long har - 2 short hair, plus two dogs. I don't brush them every day, actually about 2 - 3 times a week. I bought a "Furminator" comb from ebay (I think it cost $5). It's amazing how much loose hair it removes and it doesn't pull the hair out. My cats at first were a little relunctant, but now when I take it out, they all come running!

I don't know where you live, but here in America I used to have my cats shave with a sedative in the lion cut late spring or early summer. They were always so proud of their new do. I believe they were more comfortable as well. Now I have one short haired kitty. If you have 4 long haired cats that would be a lot of brushing daily. Do you have that kind of time and do your cats like to be brushed?

DON'T shave your cat!!!! That is stupid and not natural. If you are worried about shedding, brush them more. They need their fur for warmth and protection. It is cruel to take away their fur.

if you use an undercoat brush daily, you will not have a shedding problem. yes, the cats will still shed, but the amount will be minimal.
the key is to use it daily.

my cat hated being brushed, so it was much easier to give the haircut and not worry about the daily stress sessions.
