To the best of my knowledge, Prednisone affects different people in different ways. Some show no side - effects, while others have serious problems. I was prescribed prednisone for a heat rash. When I took it, after 3 or 4 days I started having severe anxiety attacks, problems breathing, un-controllable shaking, and the inability to sleep. This lasted up to 2 weeks after I last took the drug. I am not knocking the drug because it does wonderful things for a lot of people, but I will never take it again.

with the right dosage, side effects can be prevented in such a short time, however, when you are discontinuing the medication, you should taper it slowly because if you stop taking it all of a sudden it could send a negative feedback in the system that regulates the secretion of natural cortisone in the body, you'll end up with hyposecretion of the hormone cortisone. however, if you are only taking a small amount of the medication daily, there is no need to taper.

prednisone is notorious for causing weight gain, specifically water weight. it should really only be used for short periods of time. it will make your whole body swell up and make you puffy, within a couple of days, even. This is all most likely a side effect of the medication. talk to the vet and see if the side effects are worth it. the dog should really not be on it long-term.

There shouldn't be any issues of any kind for such a short term use. I have used it for as long as 10 days. Without any problems. However if you should need any kind of medical surgery during the next few months, do tell your doctor you did take prednisone for six days and when.
The issues with it come when one takes it long term.

I've taken it before (for an allergic reaction), and I didn't notice any side effects. It can increase your appetite and be a bit of an upper (it is a steroid, after all). Your prescription should start with a high dose, and every day, you should take less.

You might get a little hungry and retain a little water.
Sometimes it upsets your stomach a little.
No horrible side effects for short term use. Lots of them for long term use though, my mom was on it for 2 years straight.

It depends on the dosage. I've taken it for Crohn's disease and tennis elbow. The only thing I've noticed is that I do not sleep very well.
