According to the Bible, God set the rainbow in the sky as a sign, not of hope, but of passing anger. After the flood, God promised Noah, and hence mankind in perpetuity, that He would never again destroy all of mankind by water. It is part of God's Covenant with humanity. When man violates his obligations under that covenant, God causes the rainbow to be seen, with the business end pointed away from earth. It is to show God's displeasure with mankind's actions and to serve as a warning to change behavior.
As to why the gay and lesbian community would choose the rainbow as their symbol is just another demonstration of how upside this world has become.

God never said that Noah's rainbow would be the only one. It was just the first one. Why? Because prior to the Flood, it had never rained before. Gen 2:4 ¶ These [are] the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, Gen 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and [there was] not a man to till the ground. Gen 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

There is no so called typical answer to all of the questions people ask about the eccentric things people will do or say during the course of living their individual lives here on Earth my friend, however the “Rainbow” is what you said it is, and the various uses of it that people will take it for, have no general answer. Just get on board that Hallelujah special and leave that old suitcase of yours at home, cause Gods gonna deal with what’s real and that’s down in side, and it makes no difference friend what you got on!

So you're assuming a homosexual person automatically opposes God?
Now I'm going to do some assuming:
I assume you believe homosexuality is a sin...... based on the nature of your question....
So... if that is true (homosexuality is a sin- and by the way I am not saying it is or that it isn't) does that mean that since you sinned today.... and yesterday.... as we all do, because Christ teaches that we ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.....
I guess that means you, as a sinner, also oppose God?
Just something to think about....

it never ceases to amaze me how people can say that rainbows have nothing to do with God- and that it is just a reflection of light through raindrops= who do you think created light and the raindrops? GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man will try to take anything that belongs to God and try and make it their own, and discredit God. To me the TRUE rainbow is a sign of hope. You can believe anything you like. That is up to you- man , homosexuals are not, cannot take the truth of God away- because man will fade like flowers, but the Word of God will last forever- AMEN!!

The homosexual community uses a rainbow flag to show that homosexuals come in all different colors.
Different races, different abilites, different economic backgrounds.
Homosexuals do not necessarily "oppose god". Although you may find that many do, after dealing with asshats that cannot fathom alternate points of view.

It was a sign of the covenant that God made with Noah and his family. It was a promise that God would never again destroy the earth via a flood. I suppose that it was a Major comfort to them when they saw rain after resettling on the earth because I bet the whole earth flooding the way it did in The Flood from the ground up and the intense rain storms from above would have been very traumatic! Much worse than any hurricane!!
God understood and knew Noah and his family needed that reassurance.
Thankfully it's still here today to remind us that God won't repeat that again! And if you research every culture and nation on the globe you will find in their accounts of history the Great Flood, even in the most indigenous, remote ones on earth!

The other thing is, it's not really much of a promise, is it? I mean, all God's promising is that he won't use that particular method to destroy the world again. It's a bit like smacking someone's head in with a cricket bat, making a solemn promise never to do that again, and turning up at his house a week later with a golf club...

The REAL reason for the rainbow is the pact made between God and Moses that he would never again send the waters to destroy all of mankind.
So there!

The rainbow is the natural prism effect of light through beads of water, and pretty much every culture has a story as to how it came to be (including the "natural laws of physical science" one).
Why you think your religion's meaning for it gives you any more "right" to it than any other group is a matter of arrogance.
As for it being adopted by homosexuals - consider that it's an example of lots of different colors existing together in harmony to make a beautiful whole. Maybe you could learn something from it.
