I am 20 and live iwth parents still. They both have car insurance and I will be using there car when I do drive. I don't drive much. Isn't there something called permissable use where I can drive it with their insurance and as long as the car is covered its fine? Can someone provide a link. I am in Illinois.

Since you live w/ your parents, you need to be added to their policy as an occassional driver.

In most states, a permissive use driver must be a non family member, or residing outside of the household. Since you are a family member, and live at home, you should be added to their insurance. It may even cause the company to deny the claim, and then you would be driving without insurance on top of having to pay the damamge out of pocket. at 20 years old, you should be able to pay for the increase on the insurance, if not pay for the insurance on one of the vehicles.

Insurance companies require all licensed drivers in the house to be listed on the policy.

Call you insurance company before you drive.

Most insurance companies require all licensed drivers in the house to be listed. You will probably need to be added to your parents policy. Different insurance companies have different requirements. Check with your parents company.

In most states, permissable use does not apply to household residents. Since you still live with them, you either need to be added to their policy or get your own.

Here is a link ( a bit dated) but there is a phone number at the bottom of the article to call for more info: http://www.idfpr.com/DOI/General/College_Student.asp
