You can do so much with apples, it is simply amazing!
Let's start with the basics: the apples. In order to make a truly delicious crisp/crumble, you need the right apples. The best baking apple, in my opinion, is the Gravenstein. However, they aren't in season anymore... they're a summer apple. Jonathan, I believe, makes for a good crisp. So do Idared, Northern Spy, Empire and perhaps Russet.
Next, you need the usual ingredients to add to the apple mixture. Unfortunately, this varies a lot. According to the "Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp" recipe, you mix these ingredients with 5 large apples in a 8x8 inch pan:
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup water
Now the fun part: adding the specialty ingredients! If you really want to make a special crisp/crumble, then add something out of the ordinary - like maple syrup! Toss the apples with the above ingredients, along with 3/4 cup of maple syrup. You could also add pecans to the top of the crumble or add a touch of nutmeg.
Whatever you choose to do, I'm certain you will be pleased with it! Maybe next time you could try from scratch!

You can so anything with a crumble kit.. In the future you don't even need the kit just some apples or canned fruit and your "golden" get it !
You can mix the crumbles w/ some instant flavored oatmeal.. Like Maple/brown sugar for a more homemade rustic looking crumble.. You can mix in walnuts/pecans into the crumbles..
You can mix in some brown sugar with the crumble..
The apples you can use fresh or canned, but since apples are in season use fresh... Cut them into thick slices.. I like Granny's but use any combination.. Roll them in some 2 tblspoons flour, 1/4 tblspoon cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar.. Although measurements need not be exact..
If you don't have fresh apples use pie filling... It already has seasoned apples..
top with crumb mixture and 1 stick of butter cut into pats.. Bake 350 for about 45 min.. Until bubbly and brown... Let cool..

Apple crisp is super duper easy- the apples don't need much, about 5 apples may require 2 tablespoons or up to 1/4 cup sugar depending on how sweet your tooth is... I always cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the fruit also. And I-2 tbsp cinnamon will season the apples perfectly. Toasted chopped almonds or pecans are yummy mix ins also try some vanilla or almond extract? Anything goes!

Apple Crisp is one of the recipes I am ask to make quite often. After I place my diced apples in my dish I sprinkle with Splenda or Sugar then some cinnamon or apple pie spice. The amount is up to you. Then take maple syrup and drizzle all over the apples. I really can't tell you how much, just drizzle until you are happy and it looks right. In separate bowl mix oatmeal, flour, sugar or Splenda and cinnamon, mix. Cover with mixture until apples are just covered, If a few are peeping through that's ok. Then take squeeze margarine, using a zig-zag pattern and drizzle all over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 to 40 minutes or until bubbly.
Note: I usually make a large amount of the topping and put it in a freezer safe container, that way it's always ready to put on a caramel apple, pumpkin or sweet potato pie.
Good Luck with your baking!!!!!!!

add a couple of tablespoons of real butter to the apples, then add honey instead of sugar.
