Back in the days of the beanie baby craze we made a deal with our daughter (pushing 10 at the time) that we would get her 5 beanie babies if she stopped sucking her thumb for a month. Worked, she hasn't sucked her thumb since. Helped that she was probably willing to give it up at the age, but the beanie baby incentive was enough to make it happen.
Problem with sucking the thumb is that it pulls the front teeth forward if done over a long period time.

Yeah my niece has the same problem.....but she's 8 years old. We thought that she would stop on her own but she hasn't and it gets harder for them to stop as they get older. You should either put little bit of hot sauce or try that thing that tastes nasty. If you just let her do it and wait till she's ready on her own, your going to have to pay for expensive braces in the future. So this is a good time for you to help her stop. GOOD LUCK!

You can buy this stuff from most chemists that looks like it's nail paint called nail the habit; it's non toxic and it stops kids chewing their nails. We put it on our son's finger when he got into the habit of sucking it and he soon stopped. It just makes it taste nasty and doesn't hurt them in any way.

my daughter sucked her thumb until she was almost 4. i showed her picture of 'thumb-sucker teeth' and she quit pretty much immediately. if she is using a blanket or pillow, gradually remove it from the scene.

Why do you want her to stop? She has found a way of interacting with the outside world and when this particular security gets old, she will leave it when she's ready. Just 'cause YOU don't like it doesn't mean it's a bad habit.

Leave her be... children usually stop by themselves...if she hasn't by the time she's five....then give her incentives
