I can't from your question whether you know what the thumbs are for.
They're there for any user (above the first level) to express agreement or disagreement with other answers.
Thus, it's perfectly legitimate to click a down thumb to say "False." or "Bad advice." or "I disagree."
Also, there's no way to correct boo-boos. I really hate it, but sometimes I click the wrong thing. Nothing can be done to fix it.
Yes, there are people who just thumb down everything; they are jerks.
But don't confuse the thumbs with reporting. Reporting is what you do for violations: non-answers, insults, etc. Thumbs don't get things removed.

People give thumbs down to answers they don't agree with and thumbs up to answers they agree with. Why may seem a good answer to may not seem good to others. There are also some trolls who like to give people thumbs down for no reason. Those people are sick but fotunately we don't lose peoints when we get thumbs down.

Because thumbs up/down doesn't MEAN anything... it is just there so the antisocial kids that spend all day on their computers can be mean to people... Some of those losers routinely go through and give a thumbs down to every answer... so you just need to ignore them.

Unfortunately, there are some people on this site who don't have lives and decide that instead of doing something productive, they'll go around giving people thumbs downs all day. A lot of people on here serve that sole purpose. It doesn't matter what the answer is or what the question asks. They just go around giving thumbs downs. It's really sad and they should get a life, but that's how it is I guess.

I think most people give thumbs up to the answers they agree with and thumbs down to the answers they do not agree with. I originally thought thumbs down was for answers that did not answer the question. More and more it is just used to express your disdain for the answer.
"REPORT IT" should ONLY be used for answers that violate the YA guidelines, but unfortunately, people have started using Report It as another way of expressing their disdain for answers or questions they just don't agree with. It's wrong wrong wrong and it weakens the whole point of YA.

Yes, people are sometimes looking for their answer to be the best regardless of anybody else's answers.
I don't like it when I see that all the answers have a thumbs down, that means one person did it.
We have to try to be fair and if there is a better answer than ours, well thumbs up.

I found out, after joining this Q&A forum that it is easier to do the "thumbs down" because you cannot utilize the entire area until you have reached the second level, first. this is VERY unfair to respondents! EVERYONE is entitled to their own opion!
Unless the response is offensive, it should not be permitted to give a 'thumbs down' indication.
Something should be able to be added to "filter" out the offensive responses and permit individuals with varied personalities to judge another person's response!

Some people are very narrow-minded and can't handle people who disagree with them and therefore give them a low rating. I give narrow-minded people low ratings, as I do people who swear and who accuse and criticize with nothing to back up their claims. I also give people low ratings when they spam or give extremely short answers such as "yes" or "no" or "I'm not sure" and I can tell they answered like that because they wanted their two points and don't care about the quality of their answers. I for one try to enhance my answers because I care about other people!
