The days of great people your referring to are long over. To break that bread and offer it to each other is like reaching out extension of yourself in goodness and steadfast patience
Chapter 103 in the Quran tells us there is terrible disaster against those who don't do this (Allah SWT was talking directly to the muslims here!).... in peace and patience always offering the best in steadfast washing of each others hands and or breaking bread together.

The more well mixed they are the better they work together as a unity.
The total is greater than the sum of it's parts.
Adversity or baking can strengthen or destroy them.
