Let me just say I would expect parents to be diligent in adhering to school policy regarding food allergies for child safety.( or an adult's safety).

Gussie: People that are allergic to eggs are allergic to a protein in the egg that their body mis-identifies. Eggs should be avoided completely, so start reading labels. While heat will denature proteins (kind of like causes it to become unfolded) as soon as the heat is removed, the denaturing effect can be lost. Therefore, eat no product with eggs. It is ok to sit next to a person that has eaten an egg, because unlike nuts, eggs do not create dust. This makes it completely different from something like a peanut allergy, where they can't even serve peanuts on a plane for fear that a piece will become airborne. Also, if you are allergic to eggs, be sure to remind any health care provider of this fact BEFORE they give you any type of flu shot or other immunization.

Generally speaking, if you're allergic to a food ingredient, you cannot have it in any form. For example: shrimp - not chopped up and mixed in with anything, not stuffed, whole, or pureed in soup form and mixed - in other words, absolutely nothing. Being close to a person who has ingested this may be uncomfortable, but I don't know of any incident where it would bring up an allergic reaction by proximity. Simple solution - stay away from anything that may contain eggs - difficult since most desserts and baked goods have it.

My cousin is allergic to eggs and she cannot have ANYTHING that contains eggs in any way, including baked goods. For her birthday, we usually get ice cream cake.

you can try to sensitize your egg allergy by eating small proportion every once in a while but just make sure you have your medication ready because allergic reaction can sometimes be unpredictable.
