No it is not illegal to buy 2 packs of Paracetamol at the same time.
'When sold in pharmacies pack sizes are limited to a maximum of 32 tablets, and in shops other than pharmacies pack sizes are limited to a maximum of 16 tablets. Multiple packs can be purchased provided the total does not exceed 100 tablets. For quantities of more than 100 tablets a doctor's prescription is necessary. These limitations do not apply to products in the form of liquids, effervescent tablets or powders.' (www.pharmweb.net)
'In addition to these statutory requirements, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) has advised pharmacists that they should restrict sales of paracetamol to one pack of 32 tablets per sale unless there are 'justifiable circumstances' for selling more than one pack. The RPSGB has not defined what constitutes 'justifiable circumstances'.' (www.pharmweb.net)

No - its not illegal - the law applies to a single GSL drug. You can buy 32 paracetamol and 32 ibuprofen in the same transaction but not 64 paracetamol.
Actually, i dont think ibuprofen is actually covered by this rule as its overdose danger is low.

No it's now the law that you can only buy two packs maximum of the same pain relief drug and if you already brought two packs of paracetamol they won't sell you anything else that contains paracetamol. It's to cut done on people mixing them with drink to get high and to try and stop people from taking an overdose accidental or otherwise.

I tried to buy 2 packs of paracetamol and 2 packs of ibuprofen at an Aldi store today only to be refused because the assistant insisted that ibuprofen contained paracetamol and 2 packs was the limit. !!!!

In the US, you can buy all the acetaminophen (our name for paracetamol) and ibuprofen you want, and overdose to your heart's content if you're stupid enough to want to. UK limits the amount you can get to limit the risk of overdoses, but the two don't cross-react, so you must be correct about it being store policy.

You can't buy more than two packs of Paracetamol at the same time, but I would have thought that 2 packs of each drug would have been okay......they're different drugs after all.

it is against the law, i think theyve just lowered the amount you can buy in one go. its supposed to deter people who wanna top themselves from doing it. However, whats stopping them from going to another store and buying some! The law is backwards sometimes...
