I'm 29, 5ft 1 and a size 12 - 14 (UK), I eat healthy (eg typical day Breakfast: 1 apple, Lunch: Porridge made with semi-skimmed milk, Afternoon break: 1 orange, Tea: Grilled fish with jacket potato and raw veg OR Prawn salad (no dressing or mayo etc). I go to gym or swimming 3 to 4 times a week and either swim 60 lengths or at gym do 40mins cardio and about 15 mins weights. I do stomach crunches at home most nights also. I haven't weighed myself for YEARS but decided to weigh myself as I know I'm losing weight as my clothers are getting baggier.....steps on the scales....13 stone! Why? I know I have toned up alot and muscle weighs heavier but 13 stone?? I'm not particularly big boned, my wrists are tiny. I feel horrible now I was just gaining some confidence and thats just made me feel like a whale again :-(

At a size 12-14, I would have guessed you as being no more than 10 stone.

You say you don't have big wrists, but unless you actually measure them it's hard to tell whether you are large boned or not. If your wrists are over 5.75 inches, you are large boned for your height.

Also you may not have a large frame, but you can still have high bone density. Either way, a higher bone mass means more pounds of muscle and fat. And also if you work out with weights, this will make a big difference as well.

I would suggest you get your body fat percentage checked and see where this comes out. Your weight indicates you are technically 'obese', but your body fat percentage may show a different story. The average person your age, height and weight is estimated to have around 40% body fat, but you may have a much lower figure than this.

Body Fat Percentage (Females 20-40 years)

10%-12% Essential Body Fat
13%-19% Athletes/Body Builders
20%-30% Health
31%-34% Overfat
35% plus Obese

One thing I would suggest to gauge what the number on the scales actually means in terms of you and your body, go to Boots or somewhere else (i.e. local gym) that has scales which also calculate your B.M.I. by measuring your height and also has 'handlebars' which you can hold on to and they calculate your ody fat percentage. You will most probably get a nice surprise in terms of the number on the scales, as most home scales are miles out in terms of accuracy. Also, seeing your body fat percentage may help you come to terms with the numbers. If it turns out your body fat is higher than it should be, maybe you are not having enough 'good fats' in your diet, so any fat you do eat, your body is grabbing hold off. Also, maybe when you do the weights, do light weights and more reps, so you tone and don't build.

Just some tips, believe me, I have been here before and I know how discouraged the number on the scales can be. But you can get to whatever goal you set your mind to!! Good luck!

You must have a pretty good and toned body. I would estimate your body fat % at no more than 15% which is below average for a woman.
Yes muscle is heavier than fat and that is why assessing your bosy on weight alone can be demolarlising. Set your fitness goals on body fat % and not weight.
You sound hot, and there is no way I would be saying that if you were 5ft 1 and weighted 8 stone.

Size 12-14 and you think of yourself as a whale!?!?!

OMG - I am not going to admit my size then - but I don't count myself as enormous! I AM definitely too fat - I do NOT exercise - but I feel OK as I am.

Do you feel OK as you are? You sounded like you did until you hit the scales! I have an idea - hit the scales with something heavier - a hammer for example!

Sounds to me, y are perfectly fit and healthy.
God , that's a challenge all the exerciser's y are doing hon, you are just toned up and looking good for it.

Don't feel bad, I think some people are naturally heavier (not neccesarily bigger, just heavier) than others, and if you are healthy and eat stuff that's good for you and exercise you have nothing to worry about (saying that, I'm exactly the same, 5ft 6 and 13.5 stone and I am sick of it too.)

muscles really do weigh more than fat! Don't worry...trust the inches you loose, not the weight! That's what matters anyway. Also your scale might be wrong...those things go bad and if it's in your bathroom and gets water on it it will be off balance.

Does your weight really matter?
Your cloths are getting loser, you obviously have a fit body and life style. You should be happy, cos your appearance
sounds great.
Also you are right about muscle weighing more than fat, it can
weigh anything 2 twice as much.

This is why you shouldn't weigh yourself. However, your fitness routine is pretty challenging so it probably is just muscle. If you look good and you feel good then ignore the scales.
