Agree with my friend Fred. Permaculture is one of the solutions, see links below.

We need to build soils, build eco systems that are adapted to new conditions. Permaculture is a design system that means investing small amounts of time at the beginning of a project then for them to be very low maintenance and very few inputs. We need to use natural energies, wind, solar, water land existing forms, these things occur naturally, we need to use them as they are in nature - Auto sufficiency of solar, water and wind energies.

We are too ignorant of natural systems from micro level to full eco system level to adapt to climate change unless we use nature's models. We need to Copy FROM NATURE, use nature as she would to allow natural systems to develop from wind born fungal spores to natural assemblies, these evolve without man's intervention.

Permaculture is the alternative design system. To adapt to climate change we can use the permaculture stacking sytem, based on natural ecosystems. Layers of growth from bacteria through, herbs, shrubs, through to full size trees. You use landforms, by terracing, berming and swaling to create layers and auto energy management. You create useful micro climates by planting shelter belts, positioning water and light reflecting gravels and white barked trees to reflect sunlight. Using large rocks to store heat and disperse heat during cooler times.

Animals within the system are self maintaining self reproducing, provide meats, eggs, weed and pest control, poo and turn over mulches. They do the work for you. They regulate themselves, their environment.

Permaculture is all about creating the highest possible yield on a homestead. This is intended to protect nature from man's interference, that is the smallest amount of land possible to meet man's own needs for fuel and food. We extend cropping seasons, to create an early crop, dig a pond with chinampas attached. These can then be planted, again in layers, so that the falling fruit feeds the poultry, which in turn, poo into the water, so it feeds the aquatic eco system and fish. This can be polytunneled over for an even earlier crop.

We use natural systems, natural energies, easy systems that do not require work, so contribute less to further abuse of the envrionment and further use of fuels. We use chinampas so that the frost rolls off the high ground and down to the water so protects the plants from being frosted. Good for usually tender plants.
Natural landforms are taken advantage of and enhanced. Again saving on resources , promoting the optimum micro climates for growing without additional energy demands. For example when the pond is dug, the spoil is mounded up at North side and planted along the ridge with trees so that frost can not damage crops. Wind is diverted, drawn down through the trees, where it is warmed from the heat stored in the trees. We plant native mixed woodlands to provide fruit, nuts, habitat, timber for our own needs and for fuel. Forests are always warmer in winter than cleared ground and forests maintain an even temperature in summer, ameliorating the microclimate.

definitly check out permaculture http://www.permaculture.co.uk/ for practical solutions

There are 3 basic approaches that need to be taken at the moment
1. Campaigns and acts of protest to counter the destruction
2. Building positive alternatives and sustainable ways of living
3. A deeper shift in values, thinking and culture to support this

James Lovelock recomends writing all our knowledge down on copper sheets for future generations - see Revenge of Gaia, because our civilisation may not survive the social upheavals that are already beginning eg crop failure (raising wheat prices), insect bourne disease, sub-sahara migration ...

each known residing ingredient is created to alter or adapt to diverse subject whether the toughest way.have you ever questioned why fishes do no longer proceed to exist out of water for longer era?it is by way of the fact they stay in water and are properly adapted to the situations interior the water it rather is why fishes can stay interior the water all their lives yet human beings won't have the capacity to stay in water for an hour without oxygen and different diving units. So remember how warm Africa is,we are able to adapt and stay fortunately in that climate.once you come from a chilly area to Africa, you will likely experience like a fish out of water yet i won't because of the fact i'm acclimatized to my environment.

We humans are so flexible
That we can yet adapt to change
But ecosystems aren't so able
So hotter weather makes them rearrange.

We humans live within a myth
That we are independent and supreme
When we change our world enough
We see this is a stupid dream.

We humans see what Nature gives us
And yet we act like we are blind
When we don't take care of our planet
Our species can be left behind.

I think that you might like to google 'permaculture'.

I think is the levels of climate change you allude to will need a drop in the levels of consumerism, reductions in the complexity of infrastructure, greater strength of community and greater self reliance.

Global warming is already upon us, Darfur, New Orleans, Bangledesh, England...

With political borders we're going to find adaption difficult. Some countries may be finished, and movement may be restricted.

Relax. The climate change is caused by the Sun getting warmer. Solar Global Warming (SGW) is natural and has happened many times in the past.

And as the Sun has warmed, it too shall cool off. The current predictions are that the Sun will start to cool down in two years.

Buy land in the foothills--it will go up in value when it becomes beachfront.

lmao ... "when it comes" ... that's funny. You're about 40 years too late to make that statement.
