Not only is absinthe NOT illegal in the US, additional brands besides Lucid will be available in the next couple months. Kubler from Switzerland is going to be imported and released in NYC soon.

Presently, Lucid is the only brand available on store shelves (provided they haven't sold out) and their site lists the stores in NY and NJ where it can be found.

It is not illegal to buy it in the US, however it is illegal to sell it. Therefore the only way to get it is to buy it off the Internet from Europe. I know this works because I have done it twice before. Actually I just received a bottle a couple of weeks ago for my friends b-day. It is typically around $130-150 a bottle. Make sure that you get it from either Amsterdam or The Ukraine, because they have the Absinthe with real worm wood in it. Make sure to get the bottle with the highest level of thujone, that is where the fun is. The crap from Britain is just a 100 dollar bottle of green booze and a big waste of time. Just google it and you will find all sorts of different sites to buy it from.

Okay, see if you can follow this. It is legel to import Absinthe into the United States, but it is illegal to import Absinthe into the United States that is designated for human consumption.

So, it would be illegal for anyone in New York City to sell you Absinthe that you intend to drink.

So it's legal for you to own it and drink it, it's just illegal for anyone to sell it for human consumption.

Well I'm sure you have heard the rumor that it is illegal in the states. Yes you can purchase it over the internet but what you are purchasing will not have the same affects as the real Absinthe. The best way to enjoy it is by traveling to the UK. Good luck and let me know how it goes!!

It is illegal in the U.S., but you can order it from Yugoslavia. We paid about $120 for a bottle, it came in plain brown package packed in a tupperware container. Just go online look it up , or there is an old issue of Maxim magazine that has a few websites listed that you can order from over seas.

I believe real absinthe is illegal in the US, but you can get a pseudo absinthe which isn't made from wormwood.

From Wikipedia

A faux-absinthe liquor called Absente, made with southern wormwood (Artemisia abrotanum) instead of grande wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), is sold legally in the United States and does not contain thujone.
