And why does America always go to other country's territory to slaughter people there?

We needed to contain the spread of communism and prevent Russia from acquiring more territory and influence. Because of geography, it is difficult to invade the US or fight a war against us on our soil, so all of them have taken place overseas.

For starters, we don't always go to another country to fight a war. Remember the American Revolutionary War? How about the War of 1812? Perhaps the Civil War (also known as the War between the States)?

To answer your first question: America got involved in Vietnam when North Vietnam (which was run by a communist regime) tried to take over South Vietnam (which was trying to set up a democratic form of government). Like Korea, the political and military leaders of the U.S. were concerned that communism was spreading throughout Asia and could lead to World War III if China and Russia conquered too many countries and assimilated them into communism.

P.S.: Your question leads me to believe that you are anti-war. We'll remember that and make sure you have a front-row seat for the next terrorist attack on U.S. soil if you like.

At the time, during the cold war, the US was basically paranoid about communism. The French had just gotten their butts kicked by the North Vietnamese forces, and a country was about to fall to the evil communists. And for a fact the two major communist nations were, at least in their recent past, basically
evil. Both Russia and China had made Nazi Germany look mild and progressive. Maintaining a noncommunist state, no matter how unimportant was deemed necessary, and no one ever guessed how large our involvement would become. Eisenhower had some military advisors in the country for years, thinking that would do the job. No one except for the vietnamese, understood the vietnamese desire to kick out the foreign occupiers from their country.

Additional to Brainy about
US hinted the change in the government is need.

SVN caught a telegram that US approved a Coup D’etat to overthrow SVN Pdt. Diem who then decided a cold relationship with US and in doubt the Buddhist tumor was a part of the plan. Economic, military aids were reduced in response and US planned the withdrawal of all military advisors. SVN unofficially met NVN to pursue a general election as 1954 Geneva agreement, and spreaded news of a neutralization of SVN like Cambodia. However, both Pdt Diem and Kennedy were killed within few months. Until that time, a small guerilla war was fought with few weapons from WWI WWII left behind, pipe bombs, archery, and bees.

If you draw a line between Moscow and Hanoi, the parralel line is Berlin and Saigon. Any countries fall into this conflict zone were the battle fields between East and West following the WWII. Unfortunately, Indochina locates in this area and was selected.

Actually, the French and Communist launched it. The French had fled the area in the face of the Japanese in WWII. They tried to move back in after but the Communists, with lots of aid form China, wanted it, too. The Cold War in the early 60's was a very tense time. Much more than today.

Besides, its always better to slaughter them there than to have them slaughter us here.

In VietNam (French Indo-China)our participation is known as the "War of American Aggression"The US Army sent the predecessor of the "Green Berets",Special Forces to Organize,Train and Arm the VietNamese in 1957.The VietNamese had endured many wars and occupations including most recently the Japanese, who marched in to take the Rubber Plantations and Rice fields. The leader of the Vietnamese was Ho Chi Minh who introduced the Japanese to Jungle Warfare in a whole new light.(fear and terror)
The French were only too glad to see the war end in 1945 so they could continue exploiting the natural resources without sharing with the Japanese. The French used the Foreign Legion to staff their outposts and Plantations with Security Forces.
However it became apparant they should ask for help when the French were overrun By Ho Chi Minhs "Peoples Army" in Dien Bien Phu.
Our "Help" escalated into a bloated Military Monster untill we were finally commited to protecting our own butts in an effort to find away to back out gracefully. This took 15 yrs of dead American Teenagers before this was finally accomplished in April of 1975 as the US Marines airlifted the last Troop of the top of the American Embassy in Saigon.

domino theory, one country fails to communism then all the others around it fail too.

As for the second part of your question? Your an idiot for asking.

I happen to live in Australia and have America service friends out here to visit. These dudes are certainly not here to slaughter anything but a few cans of beer and couple of steaks.

why don't you get together with your mates in the Muslim world and fix the genocide problem in Ethiopia? Or maybe you would have to spend money?

America didn't go to war against Vietnam, the US went to war to support Vietnam. Our troops only slaughtered communists, kind of like putting down rabid dogs. Now it's time to do that to the muslim rabid dogs.

a lot of reason actually. some of it had to do with russia, but we mostly credit it based on france's request. france was having a rough time defeating the vietnamese, so we went over there to take over. Now, the reason that we always go to another country is because we DON'T want them coming to us. we have not fought a ground battle in the US since the War of 1812. now, we did fight the civil war here, but that was US vs. US, so i don't really count that as an invading country...we cannot allow for another country to attack us here, so we will ALWAYS go to them....

It wasn't "against" Vietnam.

It all started with the French. When the North Vietnamese rebelled, with the help of China, France asked for our help, and suddenly we were left defending the South by ourselves.

We never launched an "attack" at all, we defended the South.
