The Pharisees were a group of teachers (rabbis) who had a very strict interpretation of the scriptures. They would (after the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD) compile the Talmud, a book of Jewish traditions and interpretations that is considered part of the Jewish scriptures today. They were also a political party, working to get its members into government and religious leadership positions so that their interpretation would become the "law" of the country.

The Scribes were people whose job it was to copy and preserve the Torah. The were the scholars and librarians of their day. They could also be a member of the Pharisees, the Sudducess, or another group. Often because they were constantly reading, writting, and studying the Torah, they were experts in its content.
