She is 4 years old and durring this time she has been a very loving cat, at least to me and my husband (she is not a big fan of strangers) and since my daughter has been born she has been really good with her too. However every couple of months (there was 10 months between the last one) she just freaks out and attacks me or my husband and just recently she even got my daughter. I can't figure out a single common element to any of these attacks and if I can't find a way to stop them I may have to get rid of her. Any ideas?

My cat has been doing this since she was born but the vet can't find anything medically wrong with her. She goes for all her check ups and is up to date on her shots. Also She did this even befor the baby infact this is the first time with the baby who is now almost 11 months old although I do think the baby cry was the triger in that case.

Spray bottle or squirt gun her when she does this. Be sure to use a firm command as well. However, there is a reason she is doing this. Only you know what is going on in the home. There is an event, scent, or change that she rebeling against when this happens. When your cat acts aggressive, try & think if you have introduced anything new into the home, changed a cleaning product, sometimes even outdoors can influence an indoor cat, such as noise, or other animals approaching the home. It could be one of a million things, only you can monitor. Also, she may be in pain or ill at these times, perhaps having your vet rule out illness would be a good start.

Well, cats can be freaks when they are normal, and since it seems to be a rare occasion when it does freak, I wouldnt worry. There are some things a cat can get into that will make them flip though, catnip for one. Also, cats are very sensitive to chemicals and they can get neurotic and act crazy if they get even a slight dose of vapors. There was a problem where I live a few years ago in an apartment complex that had to do with cats. There were some underground gas tanks from an old gas station nearby that started to leak and gas vapors were seeping into the apartments. The people couldnt smell it because the volume of gas was so low, but all the cats freaked and 1 died. this went on for a few months before the cause was found.

My cat does this about once a year - his is caused by neurodermititus (sp?). He's an otherwise extremely laid back cat who seldom moves, but sometimes, he just has a fit and then calms back down.

Do the fits last more than a day? Usually I can start to see the signs of mine coming on and I get him a shot from the Vet and it prevents it.

I wish you the best, it's possible something is just scaring her terribly.

Chances are your cat is stressed with the new baby. I have a three year old tortoise shell calico who does the same exact thing. She reacts to changes in an aggressive manner. I call them temper tantrums. Normally she doesn't target a human, but rather picks on my other cat and attacks him. Once she's settled with a new routine/living situation the temper tantrums subside.

I would make sure she's up to date with all her vaccines and have a vet look at her just in case. But it does sound very similar to my situation. Good luck!

My cat is quite friendly, and doesn't have a nasty temperament.

However, if you do anything to provoke him, he'll bite, or scratch.

Animals can't talk so they try and communicate some other way, he's just letting you know somethings wrong!

Cats are frightened very easily. Especially if you rough house with them.

It sounds as though there is something not right with your cat. I would take her to the vet ASAP.
