It really is not a good idea to let a child be responsible for walking a dog - regardless of size, unless you are there to supervise.

Even a Great Dane (can get up to 200 lbs) can be walked by a 7 year old if it is appropriately trained. Dogs should never be pulling on a leash, so their strength is really irrelevant during the walk.

A dog that loves to run long distances would definitely be one of the working dogs. Collies, border collies, golden retrievers, huskies, alsatians...the list goes on and on. All dogs love to run, really.

This is a pretty good dog breed selector that allows you to fill in a questionnaire on your wants/needs for your dog (energy levels, guard dog abilities, etc) and it will recommend breeds for you. You can Google "dog breed selector" and it will yield some other similar sites. That's all I can really point you to since there is a lot more information needed than what you provided in the question in order to recommend you a specific breed.

Edit:
I forgot to add that I do agree that a 7 year old should not be allowed to walk a dog unsupervised. Even with well-trained dogs, you never know if an aggressive dog is going to come and challenge your dog, or if your dog suddenly chases a squirrel for some reason, or if the child leads your dog to check out another dog that is potentially aggressive. You should accompany the child at all times.

A child of this young age should not be walking any dog alone, without an adult to supervise. Your dog may be well trained and fine, but what happens when a neighborhood dog happens to get out of the yard and aggressively approaches your dog? A 7 yr old child is NOT able to handle this type of situation under any circumstance.

A 7 year old should never have the responsibility of walking a large dog, you just never know! Boston Terriers are awesome, high energy dogs, they are strong but are great w/ kids. I do not recommend you leaving your 7 year old alone w/ any breed of dog, like I said you just never know! Also, despite all the horrible press American Pit Bull Terriers make great family dogs and are also high energy!

It's not the dog but the training.
even a smaller dog like a miniture poodle can be quite a puller so get one and train it properly.
My 6 year old walks the great dane with no problem

Dalmations, weimeramers, huskies, all make great jogging companions. Any dog can be problematic to walk if not properly trained- my shihtzu is harder to walk on the leash than my 122 lb mastiff.

Any breed that is properly leash trained will be ok for a 7 year old to walk. Check your local shelter, mixed breeds are smart and great with kids.
