I want to keep fliuds in her so I wonder if I give her water with a syringe will that help hydrate her. She is urinating out of the box, not eating, drinking or moving much. And as for the Vet nurse (chalice). I had my cat for along time and she has made every vet visit as needed and had all illnesses taken care of. Everyones finacial state does not stay the same and how rude of you to suggest that I should not have my cat if at the time I can't afford a $900-$1000 vet bill. I have 5 children, 2 pedegree dogs and my siamese and niether have ever gone without.back to my question has anyone ever used a syringe to hydrate a sick cat? I can get her to the vet on friday when the funds are available and I will check with my vet to see if they can see her sooner.

Bell - most vets will accept a check, and hold it for a few days. At the very least, call them and ask. Lots of people have tight budgets, and animal emergencies are never expected.

If your cat is refusing water, it's not good. And forcing water may actually cause more problems. You definitely don't want water in her lungs. A few drops on the tongue, maybe.

Try to work something out with your vet. Your cat is no doubt in pain. It sounds like it may be a urinary or bladder infection.

Best of luck to you.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I buy electrolytes at the grocery store and administer it with a syringe (no needle of course)...Be certain that you keep your kittys head down in a position that the liquid doesn't run down her windpipe and cause other problems...if you can give it slowly, maybe she can lick it and possibly swallow it on her own. The reason that I use a syringe instead of a dropper is that I can keep track of exactly how much I am getting down my puppies...if you do take your kittly to the vet, then you can let them know what you have been doing and the amount that you have been able to get down her.

If you have a good relationship with your vet, there is still some that will bill you. Yes you can use a syringe but keep in mind that if you do not do it slowly and if she is not swallowing that she can aspirate and pnuemonia may become another issue. Call your vet! You sound like a caring owner and a good vet will work with you on payment. Not many left though!

Ask Your vet, mine did bill me once (I go there with my 5 pets for a few years now). I was about to pay with card but they machine was down, I had no cash so they billed me, which took about a couple of day to get. Maybe this could be on option for you?? I gave drinks from syring for my hamster when it was sick and worked fine. Just don't force too much at once. Good luck!! Poor kitty.

Any cat that stops eating should be seen by a vet ASAP.Many problems cause cats to go off their food, some are quite serious, and simply being off food for a couple or few days is enough to cause a cats liver to develop serious,life-threatening changes.(hepatic lipidosis)
You can give water via a syringe, but your kitty sounds like she needs to see the vet.Good luck-

You can try. She may resist but I'm like you, I'd have to at least try. Maybe since you have use the same vet they will help you before Friday. Give then a call but in the mean time try the syringe. Your In my prayers!

I've used the plastic one and put it in her mouth. (I also have a Siamese cat). She was just recently sick and the vet screwed me and my bf over by testing her for things that did not apply to her condition (we found that out after the fact).
That should be fine though. Just continue to give uncondition love and help her eat + drink.

She will be ok. Good Luck.

even if your cat can't get into the vet for a full visit you could ask them to just give her fluids, it's not hard and doesn't take long. and they could prolly even tack the cost on to the cost of the visit on friday.
