I use to have a terrible habit of bitting my nails, so I would where artificial nails. I would really like to just have healthy natural nails. What is the best way to encourage my nails to grow, now that I no longer bite them or where artifical nail tips.

I am 40 years old and have never worn artificial nails. But I have received compliments on my hands since I was in high school. I am a firm believer in regular manicures-every week or every other week at least. You are worth it! You hands will look great, and it is very relaxing, too. When your nails are neatly manicured, you are less likely to bite them, and it gives you nails a chance to grow out healthily. Also, if your nails are week, try Nail Tek II. It really helps. One more thing, keep a good hand cream by your bed and slather on a generous amount before bed to keep your hands, nails, and cuticles hydrated daily. Good Luck!

Go to the drugstore and get a blue bottle of Sally Hansen. It says nail growth stimulator or something like that. You rub a little bit all over your nails and it really works. Also a TINY bit of hand cream massaged into the nail and cuticle works very well for moisture. And if nail-biting is still an issue, there's a certain type of nail polish that tastes really bad; my parents used to paint the stuff on my thumbs so I would stop sucking them when I was little. Anyway, good luck and if this didn't help, try surfing around online to find more good tips (Sally Hansen, OPI, and Avon might be good places to start...)

Keep products off of your nails for the time being (no polish). Get a good cuticle/nail oil like OPI's Avoplex and invest in a good buffer. Keep your cuticles and nails hydrated by massaging the avoplex oil into your nails and cuticles twice a day and gently push your cuticles back. Buff every few days. Buffing increases blood circulation and stimulates growth.
